Thanks for the link, Brandon. This was a very informative show about the effects of sleep deprivation. They clearly showed the side effects of sleep deprivation on memory and cognition, and driving, as well as interrupted sleep having similar effects. Of much interest was the link of inadequate sleep to increased hunger due to a decrease (or increase, may have gotten this backwards) of the hormone leptin which tells us when we have eaten enough. The sleep deprived patient was clearly staying hungry. There was a lot of other information on the site- one article linking untreated sleep apnea to other diseases- heart disease, congestive heart disease, coronary heart disease, heart attack, and stroke, and the always invaluable reminders of good sleep hygiene. Research was from of all places- "Adults with sleep apnea often have more heart trouble than those who sleep soundly, new research from the American Heart Association finds."
Hello Brandon ~

Thanks for providing the 60 Minutes link. The program was well worth seeing.

Best,
Renee
