Competitive Bidding for Medicare Patients Could Affect Who Provides your CPAP Supplies

Competitive Bidding for Medicare Patients began on January 1, 2011 in 9 areas of the United States for 9 product categories and CPAP equipment and supplies are included in Competitive Bidding Program.  If you live in one of the 9 CBAs (Competitive Bid Areas) you may need to change durable medical equipment providers to have Medicare continue to pay for your CPAP equipment and supplies.  Go to www.medicaresuppliersnetwork.com to learn more about Competitive Bidding, what products and areas are affected.  If you have any questions, email me at jana@medicaresuppliersnetwork.com or call me at 800-825-5633 ext 1125.

*sigh* We can kiss getting APAPs and even fully data capable CPAPs good-bye w/this CBA bit. The local providers are going to get the HCPCS code for APAPs changed to their own specific number. And it is going to be harder and harder to find a good DME provider. You think the local DME providers have had us by the short hairs so far??? Ha! That's NOTHING to compare w/what we are in for w/this CBA bit if it is adopted nationally - and I'm sure it will be. On the other hand, these CBAs should increase the online CPAP providers' sales. Especially as people become more and more aware and better and better educated. The manufacturers seeing the handwriting on the wall have been developing and providing full data capability options. Hopefully, the manufacturers will stop manufacturing the "dumb" PAPs entirely!!!!
I'm wondering if anyone who is in a CBA has had any experiences yet?
