"Some sleep specialists remain skeptical of the home tests, saying the data often are unreliable because of sensors coming loose during a night's tossing and turning."

"We're spending a lot more of our time now seeing cases for follow-up where we're the second or third opinion, or testing somebody who's failed out of one of these home-study sleep programs," Wyatt said. "Had the patient been treated correctly in the first place, they would have saved time and money."

The hospital I work for actually bought an entire floor at the hotel across the street from it. So we give a hospital quality test in a roomy hotel setting. It is pretty nice.

I had a conversation with my boss last night who took an at home test. It showed him to have an AHI 15. He then took a lab based test showing an AHI 3. He explained that this was a little more off than normal, but these test tend to run high on the AHI. There are some labs that will bring a portable set up to your home where an actual tech can perform the study. From my understanding the the cost to purchase this type of diagnostic equipment is high.
i would imagine that there are 100s of kinds of home tests out there -- and multiple ways to administer them. and it's so new for anyone to get paid for them, that everyone's kind of experimenting with it now and figuring out the best way to handle. if anyone knows whether any consensus is emerging on which home test is the best one, please let us know.
I would look for one that that has some sort of EEG recording. If it does not then it will record breathing events while you are awake.
