Hello everyone!

I have a question regarding cardio and APAP therapy. I am on APAP and began my cardio schedule again with my trainer. Before I began, my readings were between 10-12. It has been two months of dieting, weight training and cardio and my readings are now 8.6- 9.7. I know that cardio exercises are good for building your lungs and heart (stength and capacity) and it only makes sense that if you are breathing better, you are getting better readings.I have lost 22 pounds and 3% body fat. I have about 80 pounds more to lose to get to goal weight. My question is, are the readings getting better because the cardio is helping the breathing or is it the body fat or both? My pulmonologist thinks it is the weight loss.  Has anyone else noticed a difference in their readings with weight loss or better breathing?

Hi Christine, You are going in the right direction lower numbers are a good thing. You will probably see even better numbers as you continue fitness/ weight  efforts . Good Sleep,Chris
I would contribute your improvement in numbers to the weight loss.  The CPAP only splints your airway open, it has minimal, if any, effect on your lungs.  The target AHI is five or under, but if your doctor is satisfied for now I wouldn't be concerned about the AHI.  You could ask him about a slight pressure adjustment next time you see him (whoever prescribed and monitors your CPAP therapy).  Congratulations on your cardio therapy and weight loss.  Keep us posted.
