I was diagnosed with Sleep Apena over 6 years ago.. I cannot sleep with the machine. I have tried everything besides putting super glue on my head to keep it on at night. I have a small head I guess and the base of my skull is flat.. It falls off in the middle of the night and I am unaware of when that happens... When I am sadated I wake up bloated and so this has been a miserable time for me.. I give up!

Wow, Becky...sorry to hear that you're having so much difficulty after 6 years! You'd think there would be SOME kind of solution with all the different types of masks and nose pillows. I'm fairly new at using a machine, but after suffering so many years (undiagnosed), I took to it like a duck to water and have gotten so much relief! I hope you find a solution!!
Hey Becky,
You aren't alone in your difficulties, but you need to share some additional information, which will provide a better picture of what you are experiencing.

What is the machine type, brand, model and the pressure settings? What is the mask type and model that you are using? What is the sedative? The answer may lie in the details.

With some more information, the answers will flow in from the veterans.

We are all here to help. The "force will be with you."
Thanks Dee and Dan.... I really would like to make it work, but as of now it is under my night stand table not being used. I will get back to you Dan on what model and type it is... Blessings Becky

Wow, Becky. You have great will power if you've stuck w/this for 6 years w/no good sleep that entire time! I'm impressed!

When was the last time you had an in-lab PSG titration?
Were you ever given a copy of the doctor's dictated results for your in-lab sleep evaluation and/or your in-lab titration?
Has your local DME supplier's RT tried to help you at all?
Has your sleep doctor tried to help you at all?
Do you have insurance?
Does your insurance cover DME supplies and in-lab sleep studies?
What med are you using for "sedation" to help you sleep?
How often do you use it?
Hey Judy... Actually I had given up on it .. until I saw on facebook the discussion group. I had my last sleep test in 2005. I saw a copy of my sleep test.. I REALLY need this machine. Both my parents ( one deceased) have/had to have theirs. Our insurance right now is cancelled.. so kindof on hold to find out what I can do. I hurt my back and had to be put on pain med's. Now I know that pain med's will relax me to the point that I will just not breath. I went code blue in the hospital on morphine.. It scares me to know that if I don't wear it I may die.

Ouch, Becky. You're between a rock and a hard spot right now. (((hugs))) Still, dig out that xPAP of yours and lets see what we can come up w/to help you out.

Write or call the sleep lab/sleep doctor where you had your 2005 sleep study and titration study and request a copy of the doctor's dictated results AND a copy of the full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs from both studies plus a copy of your equipment order (script) resulting from them. They will gives us clues to help you out as well. Plus ... if you need anything new all the items are a LOT cheaper online, a LOT!!

I take it you hurt your back and have been taking this pain reliever medication AFTER that 2005 sleep study? What state are you in?
A good chin strap will probably help you keep your mask on. It would at least provide additional support.
Good idea, Rock Hinkle!!!

Becky, the Respironics basic white PN 302175 chin strap is light weight, comfortable, adjustable and the least expensive on the market.

You can also try a night or two using a leg cut off a pair of panty hose tights run under your chin and tied at the top of your head. The panty hose tights aren't as "slippery" as regular panty hose.
Thanks for the advice guys.. I really appreciate that very much... have a great memorial day weekend!! Becky
