I have had this machine since 2010 and used it like 5 times through the night with the help sleeping medicine. I have back trouble and I cant sleep on my side of course because of the mask. To top it off I went for my second study and they lowered my pressure from 7 to 6, I thought I needed it higher. When I put the mask on I immediatley start to feel like I need air! The only way to sleep with it on is from tylenol nightime medicine or something like that. I also have been having short term memory loss, espically with my vocabulary. Ill be in mid sentence and cant think of the phrase. I have been having what seems to be heart palpatations now, which I never had before.  My blood pressure is generally at 115/89 and my heart rate is always at 95 or higher. Anybody else have any comments, suggestions etc.... Thanks

You don't mention what kind of a mask you use. I'm a side-sleeper and have found that two mask styles work best for me: the nasal pillow style (Swift FX) and the cloth SleepWeaver mask. Oddly enough, though, I still occasionally use -- and like -- my first mask, which is a nasal mask.

I wrote about my experience with the SleepWeaver (which might be helpful to you), on this thread: http://www.sleepguide.com/forum/topics/sleepweaver-mask-really-work...  The SleepWeaver is quite a different mask and it works well for some and doesn't work for others. It seems to work for me, however.

I like to avoid sleep medication of any kind (not that I haven't "indulged" from time to time) so I find that several things make a difference for me in terms of having a good night's sleep. They include: (1) at least 30 minutes of (reasonably brisk) walking earlier in the day, preferably in sunlight; (2) relaxing for up to an hour before going to sleep (reading and/or saying my prayers and NOT using my computer, watching TV, etc., etc.) and (3) making sure that I've eaten several hours before bedtime (which is hard for me: I've always liked to eat late -- after 8:00 pm, even after 9:00 pm).

Last night I slept particularly well, following all the above PLUS taking an L-Theanine capsule. I also switched from my SleepWeaver mask to my nasal pillow-style mask. I don't know if that switch also made the difference. (I've been testing the SleepWeaver mask).

I think you will find what every one of us has found: A lot of this is working out all the little elements that work best for oneself. We post our respective experiences here trying to help each other. Read the different posts; see what seems right for you and give it a try.

My advice: keep working at it. And don't be surprised if it takes a while. I'm told (and it has been my own experience, too) that it takes about six months, maybe longer, to get everything figured out so that it works for you. And, of course, week by week, things get better as one continuously figures out what's best for oneself.
