Wow! I am not the only one that bites their tongue. Sending my sharp eye tooth to the tongue is the worse alarm clock. After that happens I am afraid to fall back to sleep.
I was told a few years ago I have sleep apnea (didn't believe it); I hate the machine, I would fight it(husband hates the noise) finally gave up on the machine.

Perhaps you can muffle the sound of the machine by lowering it below the bed and cushioningthe bottom with something- I have heard computer pads recommended or perhaps cut a small bathmat to size. If the mask is the problem try to sleep facing away from your husband. I usually do the cuddling part first and when I'm ready to go to sleep I turn over and don my mask. Some education is needed for your husband so he can understand the dangers of untreated sleep apnea. A worst case scenario would be to sleep in another room until he decides he would rather deal with the noise than sleep without you. Also I usually wait until my partner is asleep before starting my cpap though the noise from mine is negligible and doesn't bother her.
Pleae start back on your machine! Good luck
