due to a bad back, i sleep on a foam mattress on the floor, so i cannot tilt the bed in order to use gravity to help open the airway of my throat -- which i've heard can be helpful for obstructive sleep apnea.  i would like to put a wedge under my foam mattress, one that is about 32 inches long, 24 inches wide and gradually increases in height to 7 -8 inches so that my torso and head are gently raised.  i have looked at length on the internet, and i have not found such a wedge to buy.  i have found the mediwedge, but that's made for the entire length of the bed, and i don't imagine lowering my legs is necessary or particularly healthy for circulation.  i found medslant, wich is made in the correct dimensions, but it's a topper/pillow and i don't want to change the feel of my mattress due to my sensitive back.  ideally, i would like to find a hard foam or plastic wedge to place under my bed, but i simply cannot find it.  i could buy a fitness mat wedge, but it's not designed for my purpose so i'm not sure it will retain its shape underneath my mattress.  i could possibly ask for a custom made piece of hard foam or plastic from a manufacturer, but i'd rather not go to that length.  does anyone have any suggestions?  eric

Have you tried a medical supply store in your city for the type of foam wedge that is often used to treat GERD?   I don't know if any of these are made for under mattress use.  Your search seems pretty thorough.  It seems as though you could easily make one- perhaps covering one of the available options with fiberglass for strength and to keep it's shape.

One other option to help open your airway is a soft foam cervical collar.  These support the chin, keeping the head from falling forward and contributing to airway collapse.  Some members swear by them, but it's not something is general use.  It would be an inexpensive option to try.

Keep us posted on what you come up with, Eric.

Hi Eric,  Did you have a sleep study ? You use a dental device ? Is it adjustable? I tried wedge because of gerd ,Having a back issue also,  it put stress on lower disks that made pain. I propped the entire bed up. You could use ply wood and rest it on as many blocks, bricks books as you find tollerable. Start low and build up height. Good Sleep,Chris
