Can this therapy affect an irregular heartbeat?

As a side effect of bypass surgery, I developed a condition that occaisionally throws my heartbeat out of whack. It had been diagnosed as atrial flutter, but may have morphed into something different.

Since using my BiPAP, I have not had any episodes. It has been about three weeks and I would typically have had at least three by now.

Possible benefit or wishful thinking?

Juan, this is just one ink I found on a google search for cpap and atrial fib. I know I've read more about it other places and I believe cpap/bpap does decrease atrial fibrillation.

Apnea denies are bodies oxygen and good healthy sleep. In turn the loss or inadequacy of these 2 things puts alot of stress on our bodies. Apnea limits our ability to heal physically and mentally. The lack of oxygen puts our hearts in a situation where it has to work harder to move o2. It does this at a time when our heart should be taking a much needed break. Yes your heart does need a break even if it is a small one,

About six months ago I titrated a patient. This pt displayed an irregular heart beat with bigiminy, trigeminy, and at one time 6 pvcs in row. It was a slow process. By the end of the titration the heart beat, for the most part, was regular. The PVCs were sparce and singular. This was a 6 hour snap shot on straight CPAP. I would love to see what his EKG looks like today. CPAP is not the cure all, but it is a step in the right direction for good health and healing.
Congratulations on hopefully eliminating the episodes of irregular heartbeat.

Sleep apnea is known as a major risk factor for developing atrial fibrillation, and treating sleep apnea seems to help, and sometimes even eliminate, atrial fibrillation in some people.

Recent research indicated that an apnea increases by 18 times the odds of a heart rhythm issue, including atrial fibrillation, when compared to normal sleep breathing. You can learn more in this news article:

Good luck.

A-Fib can be coomon after Bypass with rapid changes to atrial Flutter. One a side note A-Fib and Atrial Flutter can seen in those with sleep apnea. In these patients nPAP can make a difference.
