Is anyone out there using the Oracle?

I have been trying to use it for several nights and am finding it impossible to fall asleep due to a sensation that is difficult to explain. It almost feels like an influx of air, or a pressure change, enough of one to make my cheeks puff out a little for a second, then it resolves. It's not a true pressure change, as it occurs even when my machine is on a set pressure. I thought it may have to do with breathing through my nose, but when I put the nose plugs in, occasionally a sensation occurs with the nose plugs too (I'm too tired when this occurs to encode the memory well enough to explain it). Both sensations conspire to keep me awake. I don't know if my mouth is too open, or it's a nose-breathing problem, or what. I gave up after a couple of hours last night and put on the Quattro with Duoderm. It actually sealed (unbelievable!) and my nose felt OK (really unbelievable!) and I was elated. Woke up this morning with a welt on my nose (here we go again...), so now I need to try again with the Oracle. Any tips would be appreciated.

it's a Fisher & Paykel mask, right? I'm going to ask around for you.
Yes, it is. Thanks!

I'm not sure why your cheeks puff out a little. It might be the pressure setting and once you relax enough to fall asleep, some of the air escapes through your mouth. But, if you do better with the Quattro, there is an exciting new product out that might help your nose. It's called a gel pad, and it sticks to your face right underneath the mask. We don't have them in yet, but I will try to attach a link to it for you to look at. Apparently it can even be billed to insurance under the same code used for a mask cushion.

I have attached a pic for you!

That sensation that is waking you up is the start of a mouthleak.

If you aren't using heated humidity already, then start using it and see if the problem continues.

If you already are, then you'll need a FFM like the Quattro you already have. If the welt was on the bridge of your nose, turn the dial on the front of the mask so that it takes the pressure off the bridge of your nose. (I find that many users of this mask don't even realize that this adjustment for the bridge of the nose even exists)

If that doesn't work, then the product that Melinda mentioned may work very well for you.

The main problem that you are having isn't specific to the Oracle, but to any nasal only mask that you would use. (another option is a BiPAP trial. I'd try this last just because of the logistical nightmare)

Saz
The Oracle is a oral device. I wonder why the sensation appears to improve when I use the nose plugs... You think it's a mouth leak, not a nose leak? I am using the humidifier built into the PR System One Auto, which technically is heated (although it doesn't feel very warm).

I am sorry to say that I have tried the Comfort Care Pad that Melinda recommended. I was still getting red marks on the bridge of my nose with it, and one day woke up with a very bad welt that took a long time to heal. I don't know if the pad got misplaced during one of the many seatings/reseatings of the mask, or what. Oddly, the Quattro leaks more with the Comfort Care Pad, even though they say it's supposed to help with leaks. I am willing to try it again, though. I thought I was OK last night with the Quattro and Duoderm, and still woke up with significant mark.

I do know about the dial on the forehead, and I try to keep it as loose as possible. However, I end up having to tighten it down to prevent air from leaking into my eyes. Is there some other adjustment I should make on the headgear straps? On another board people were saying to tighten the lower strap, but keep the top one on the looser side.

Thanks a million for all the help!
