Any experience with Swift FX with a large nose? Any other advice on products?

I have a rather large nose (thanks to my Italian ancestors!) and could not use a regular mask, because I could never get a seal around the bridge of my nose.

I was recommeded to try a Breeze Nasal a few years ago, and it was a dream! I could not use the x-large pillows, however, because my nostrils are long and narrow, but instead use the large dilator, which is a large pillow but also is long so it extends into the nostril a bit, sort of like a funnel.

Anyway, with the Breeze, I can only sleep on my side because of the apparatus. Not a problem, but after a few years, sleeping on my back would be nice sometimes.

I have read about the Swift FX, and the other Swift products. But I don't know about the nasal pillows, or if they would work for me.

Before I purchase a new Breeze -- or try the Swift FX and buy the insurance to return it if it doesn't work -- does anyone have any experience or knowledge of the Swift FX with regards to having a large nose?

Signed, Jimmy Durante (aka Tony!)

Tony, I can't speak to the masks themselves. I use a FFM. One way to try a mask out rather inexpensively is the cpapauction. You can find new masks there and if it doesn't work for you sell it to someone else as a used mask. This would usually cost less than the return insurance option from an online dealer. You've been at this awhile so you probably know this, but usually if you have insurance your DME will allow you to try a mask and return in within a specified length of time if it doesn't work.
I'm sure someone will have experience with the masks you are asking about and can be more helpful.
Good Luck,
Mary Z.
thanks mary. i will try the auction.

anybody else have a big shnozz like me and can offer some advice?
Hey Tony...I feel your pain! The last time I had a sleep appt, I looked at all the masks they had, and didn't see anything that looked any better than the Swift LT nasal pillow mask that I am currently using...I was disappointed as I was tired of waking up in the night as the pillows are continually sliding off my nose, as all sizes are too wide and shallow to seat properly. But everything I looked at had a '3-point' configuration, which is great for those with triangular nose bottoms, but not for us with parallel setups! So I will stick with the LT, it would work better if I didn't sleep on my side, and move around. But still a drastic improvement over a FFM.

I am waiting for more info on the FX mask, but the lack of the swivel adjustment that the LT has, makes me think it won't be an improvement, as I won't be able to position it under my nose. I'll just wait to see.

There is a great similarity between cpap masks and pantyhose...they do the job but sure leave a lot to be desired...
The only thing that would prevent you from using the FX Nasal pillows would be a very high CPAP pressure...If your pressure is below 15 The pillows should be fine. A lot of people I try on the FX really like it.. You might check with your local sleep lab, they may be able to loan you a FX mask to try for a week or so.
