All this talk about machines that record data --- how can the patient see that?

Im really lost reading about these machines that record data.   I had a defective machine, but the doctor's office got the manufacture to send me a new one ASAP.  SO now  I  have a REMstar Auto A flex. It has a memory card -- SD card I guess.

Why can't I see that data?   I could be wrong, but it seems to me the  patient is left in the dark about so much of what's going  on.

What data is availble?  Is  there a way for me to see the data?

*sigh* I so wish that Respironics would give up on that REMStar name! They use it w/every series of PAP they produce. REMStar tells us NOTHING but that it was made by Respironics. They just make it so confusing by continuing to use the same model names over and over as well: Plus and Pro ... and Resmed is no better, constantly using the same model names over and over ... *sigh*

So do you have the Respironics M Series Auto w/A-Flex or the PR SystemOne Auto w/A-Flex?? Both are fully data capable devices. But how you access the data and what data is available via the LED screen and what data is available via the patient version software, EncoreViewer, differs between them.

Generally, by Efficacy data or data we mean, at the very least,: Leak rate, AHI and AI.
Judy -- thanks!

But looking over the internet, I believe now I have the System One Auto - w Aflex.

I did play with the LCD screen and saw a few things -- like AHI (I had 4.4 average AHI for 7 days, 5.2 for 30days, whatever that means) Except for a few hours, I've always worn the CPAP.

Most troubling, Periodic breathing -- I had 0%, but I have no idea if that's terrible or great. Im actually afraid to find out! Im sure it's one or the other, otherwise, why record it?

But I wish I had a booklet that explained this stuff. Surely there is SOMETHING that lets people know these basic things!

Im wondering if my settings should be a little higher -- this new machine helped (my last one was defective) but Im still pretty tired in the morning. Does the machine record data that would suggest that I need a higher setting, or is another sleep study the only way to determine that?

The PR S1 Auto records plenty of data - the problem w/the PR S1 is the LIMITED amount of data via the unlit LED screen. Unfortunately, you need the EncoreViewer 2.0 or EncorePro 2.2 software to be able to see it. Respironics LED screen data has always been much more limited than Resmed's well-lit LED screen data. Just as Respironics' access to the LED screen data has always been more complicated than Resmed's altho not all that difficult. I can't say if this holds true w/the Resmed S9s as compared to the PR S1s since I have no experience w/the Resmed S9s.

It is my understanding that 0% Periodic Breathing is a good thing. It is also a good thing that over the first 30 days your AHI averaged 5.2. That's a great start to PAP therapy! And you can see the improvement w/your AHI averaging 4.4 over the past 7 nights. We look for an AHI under 5.0 as good therapy. AHI is the combined number of apneas and hypopneas experienced per hour.

Did you receive a Users Manual w/your PR S1 Auto? That might explain some of the things you question. They should have provided you w/the Users Manual. I know they don't give you access to the Clinicians/Providers Manual as it is intended for professionals only altho if you buy your PAP online it comes w/it. You might find some more info about your PR S1 Auto at the Respironics website if you're really curious. And cpap.com usually gives a pretty good description of the features and capabilities of the CPAPs they sell.
