I have a question... Has ANYONE, EVER, done a night at a sleep center and NOT be diagnosed with sleep apnea?
A second, followup question... Has ANYONE, EVER, NOT been given a prescription for a CPAP, BIPAP, etc machine???

66 but since been on CPAP (REMstar Auto A-flex) for 2 months now feel like 36!

Carl, My first sleep study showed "mild sleep apnea". I was given the choice to wait and see, or give CPAP a trial. Due to my symptoms, wait and see was not an option for me. But the doc would have let me walk out without a script. Interesting to me, my numbers in the sleep lab- twice each for sleep study then titration, were never as bad as my numbers are night to night via my ResMed screen. This has been confirmed by my Doc.
To stay on the thread, again I am 57 (the flesh withers 'round an unchanged core. Doris Lessing), feel 57, yet don't feel older than I ever did. Luckily just a bit wiser.

Carl I have had many patients that have been cleared for apnea. Roughly 85% of my patients do have sleep apnea. Sleep hygeine and stress are also very common in bad sleep. We do alot of education on these 2 topics. If a person comes into the lab and sleeps well one of these problems are typically the culprit for their bad sleep at home. This is why the isolation of a sleep study is so important.

Carl the first sleep study I had a few years ago I was not diagnosed with sleep apena. I insisted that I had been awake all night. I smelled the food they had for their evening meal. I heard them entering and leaving other patients rooms. I could even remember things I heard them say outside my room. I also was in a bed that had a short in it everytime I rolled or moved a light came on under it. They insisted I had slept like a baby the entire night, I never stirred. I even proved to them about the light under the bed, they laughed and said I was the funniest patient that had ever came in for a test. I swear i was awake, they said it did not register on their equiptment that had woke any through the night.

Carl. I would say only 30% of the patients I see need CPAP. However we are a sleep Disorders Center and see patients for other sleep issues.
