I have a sleep problem.

I went to bed around midnight. I awoke about 3 am with some itching. I have eczema, About an hour passed and I went back to bed.

My wife woke me at 8 am, but I just turned over and went back to sleep. I awoke at 10 am, went to the toilet and started to dress. Then I lay down and went back to sleep. This time I did not put on my Cpap machine.

At midday, I awoke, got dressed, sat down to put on socks, lay down and went to sleep almost fully clothed. Finally at about 1 pm I was awake enough to have breakfast.

This happens every few days. I was retested for the level of my Cpap machine last year when all this started happening. I have told my GP but it does not seem to concern him. Luckily I am retired so do not have work commitments.

There is no sleep Dr or Sleep Technician in my city.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Ask your wife if your mouth comes open when you sleep, I have a hunch...also how old is your unit, and do you use a humidifier (if so what setting?)
The setting on my Cpap machine is 13 and it has a humidifier. The machie is several years old but is the latest model . I asked about that when I did my latest sleep test last year. I have asked my wife if my mouth is open when I sleep. She says no, but I have an unused mouthguard and I will use that just in case.
Gordon, a lot could have changed since your last test.. It's a shame there are no reources in your city. Do you have a data capable machine, and if so, are you able to access you AHI, and AI every morning. This would at least give you an idea if your pressure is working for you. I would also try putting on the CPAP during that time in the early morning when you're so sleepy and take a nap. One last thing, perhaps your GP could prescribe a stimulant mediine for you. There are many out there, I think two of the most popular for excessive daytime sleepiness in someone on CPAP are Provigl, or Nuvigil. I take Nuvigil myself because even though I'm on CPAP I still need a nap during the day or am fighting to stay awake.
Good Luck,
Mary Z.
Gordan I do not mean to scare you, but how is your heart? Have you had a physical lately? There could be something going on that is effecting your sleep without being sleep related. I would take these complaints to your family physician if possible.
if your unit is old than it may be out of calibration, also rock is right, sleep is just one part
Everyone should have a machine with full data capability. Without one, you can't tell how many respiratory events you are having at night. Your fatigue and sleepiness could be because you are having many events each night or just on certain nights.

What are the chances of getting a machine with data capabilities? The best would be one that has optional software.
There could be a plethora of issues. Nasal Mask do not guard from mouth breathing. Using the mouth guard is a great idea also a chin strap is worth considering. The sleep environment, stress, and depression all can play a role in your current sleep issues.
The sleep chamber should be clutter free, recent research has shown that green and blue lights may disturb sleep. When choosing a digital clock go for the one with red lit letters.
Banyon is correct in that everyone should have a data capable machine. This gives you a great baseline.
Talk to your Healthcare provider and yes as Rock said get a cardiac workup it couldn’t hurt.
Gordon, look on the top of your PAP and tell us what it gives for a model name. Is your PAP black or a dark charcoal grey? Does it have Plus or Pro as a model name?

Is your PAP beige and navy blue? Does it have Compact, Escape or Elite in the model name?

Take a good look on your mask and/or its headgear and see if you can tell us what mask you are using. Is it a nasal pillows type where the cushions fit up against the bottom of your nose? Is it the nasal cushion type where it is sort of triangular shaped and fits from bridge of nose to bottom of nose? How old is this mask? When did you last get a new one?

You might want to consider a product called REMZzzzz. It is a cloth type mask liner that fits on your face w/a cut out for your nose and the mask cushion lays on top of it instead of directly on your skin. That might help w/the itching and ecxema. You can buy them online, just do a google search.
