This is from Bill. We at SleepGuide do not endorse this product one way or another and have no connection to its makers --- just though some of our members might be interested, and it was originally posted to the wrong place:

Austin Air HealthMate™ brings your bedroom to the summit in air purification. A HealthMate air cleaner in the bedroom delivers consistently clean air, deep rem sleep, and and supports whole health revitilization from a deep rich sleep.

Our Daily Facts: The day begins and ends in the bedroom. A day lasts 84,600 seconds. We breathe 15,000 to 35,000 times a day. One third of these breaths are taken horizontally, when we’re in bed, trying to sleep in a room the EPA states is two to five times more polluted than the air outside.

We get 90% of our energy from the oxygen we breathe. If that’s compromised by polluted indoor air, we wake up stuffy, sluggish, less inclined toward proper exercise and diet. Along with breathing, our body depends on the three-legged health stool: sleep, diet and exercise. So, what’s in your air? And if your bedroom doesn’t have an air purifier, you are the air purifier.

The Solution: The Austin Air HealthMate™ offers every bedroom user a drug-free, simply plug-in air purifier machine that combines the best technology elements developed for allergy and asthma sufferers with HealthMate’s “Whole Health, Pure Air, Pure Sleep, Weight Loss”™ technology. A healthy room makes for a healthy sleep.

HealthMate™ is the air purifier with True Medical Grade HEPA filtration. to purify your bedroom environment. REM White Sound™ helps deliver a fresh, uninterrupted sleep. HealthMate™ enhances the body's Deep REM metabolism, so healthy and necessary in releasing the body's metabolic fat burning enzymes.

"Many individuals come to notice their mid-drift developing that “tire” appearance," says Holland Bach, Sleep Professional of HealthMate™ Sleep Sciences, adding "These individuals eat less and exercise more, they say, so why the weight gain?" Studies indicate that lack of deep sleep is a major cause in lack of weight maintenance, and is a contributor to obesity and diabetes. "Purify the air," Holland Bach says, "and you energize the metabolism of sleep, and change your overall health metabolism…naturally, with HealthMate™."

Health care professionals encourage the “pure sleep” that comes from a HealthMate™ non-drug induced, whole health environment. Pure sleep, and a healthy ration of it, is the least attended but third leg on the health stool, sharing equal weight with diet and exercise. HealthMate™ is your bedroom's natural, fresh sleep machine™. HealthMate™ can be viewed and purchased at http://www.austinair.com

In my opinion this isn't anything but a blatant ad. When you check the website out the air cleaners are expensive and since the air is being filtered by the use of filters on most machines the use of an air cleaner is probably not needed except in rare instances.

I use two filters (a grey foam filter and then a disposable fine white filter) on my machine and if necessary could add an inline filter as well.

If a cpap user themselves use a product and can vouch that the product is a real benefit then I feel such posts are useful and can help with the therapy. I know I have personally endorsed products that have helped my therapy -- BUT I have no vested interest in the company, am not a paid endoser, and gain NO monetary benefit from my endorsement.

The above ad for the austinair seems to to me that it is FOR monetary gain and was not placed here solely as an unbiased opinion of a cpap user that finds the product useful.
I think also that this is a blatant ad, just like Carol. I read it and visited their site, and their products are quite expensive. I do think that people should be allowed to bring their products to our attention if they think that the products will help PAP users in some way though.

I currently utilize a cool-mist humidifier in the bedroom and feel and sleep much better when using it - but have never tried an air cleaner, as I agree with Carol that our PAP machines have several filters built into them. I also have a huge oxygen concentrator in the bedroom that makes its own oxygen for me to use and it has alot of filters on it. So I feel pretty safe that I am breathing very good quality air in the bedroom and can tell a huge difference in my sleep just from changing from a C-PAP device to the newer Bi-PAP Auto SV unit I now use. I also love the Pur-Sleep aromatherapy in addition to my Bi-PAP and Oxygen. It helps in soothing me off to sleep and is comforting too.

Just wanted to add my own personal thoughts on this item. Way too expensive for me, and I have plenty of other things to keep up with for now.
