Last Thursday I had pretty extensive sinus surgery. The first night I braved wearing my cpap and did okay with it. Since I've been home I've been having a horrible time. It feels like the air I breath out isn't being vented out fast enough. I can feel every hot breath lingering in the mask. This is the 4th time I've been up tonight since 1am. I have a horrible head ache, you know those headaches that come with not breathing? I don't know if there's something wrong with my mask that it's not venting the air I breath out, or if it's just the effects of the surgery leaving me with higher ahi levels. In either case I'm miserable right now. How can I rest and heal from surgery if I can't get restful sleep to do so. Any thoughts/ideas as to what I can do? I'll do anything over here I'm miserable.

Anna, what did your surgeon recommend about using the CPAP right after surgery?  I know we don't like to go without, but I have heard of some folks being advised not to use the machine for a period ot time to heal.  Can you feel the exhaust coming out through your mask?  I doubt it would have broken overnight so to speak.  You're right you need to get some rest in order to heal.

Good luck,  I hope it's something that gets better soon.

What is your humidity set at?

My ENT doc said to use it as tolerated. I just got the stints taken out of my nose today so I hope I'll do better tonight. I thought the humidity was set to high so I put it on 2.5, but it still feels hot in my mask. I took a nap today without my cpap and felt fine. One side of my nose is completely clear and I think it's helping with the apnea. I'll let you all know how I do tonight :)
