I tried the breathe right strips, also, a device that you wear on your wrist that when you snore, it wakes you up, and I paid abour $250 years ago for the mouth pieces fitted and made by my dentist at time. None of those "really worked." I personally think the CPAP is the way to go. And, just for information only, when I recently saw my NEW doctor, I told him I was losing my hearing. He checked my ears and wanted to know how long this was going on. I said about 3 years & no doctor ever said I had a build up of fluid in the BACK of my ears. He prescribe Nasalcort and said to use that daily. He said it's most likely "allergies." When you use a nasal spray, he said to look at your toes. (When you spray your nose, look at your toes.) I've been doing this for about two weeks now and my hearing IS coming back; plus, I notice that the auto titration on my CPAP, the numbers are down to 6 and 8; not the 10 and up anymore. I never felt like I was have a sinus problem either.

Snoring is not a nasal or tongue placement issue. It's the result of breathing through a flacid airway. Think of the awake airway as a plastic straw. I always think of the McDonalds straws for soem reason. When we fall asleep our airway goes from being a plastic straw to an old wet paper straw. Remember how you used to blow through them to make noise? That's snoring.
Sorry. Mike C, stopping snoring certainly would be a good thing, but it doesn't mean you're not having apneas/hypopneas. A dental device from the dentist would be your best bet.
Not really, but something is better than nothing. Have you reied a dental device?

Dumb question I suppose but since I have been ordered to never use my APAP again for ear problems I have been attempting cures for snoring. Why snoring? Well I am GUESSING that if I am not snoring, I am not having Apneas or hypopneas? Is this assumption at all correct? I really am out of ideas on helping myself if I am on the wrong track.....
Mike,
I sat through a great sleep lecture this las week. I was taught some basic rules for treating sleep.
1-Do no harm
2-When the treatment produces negative results it's probably not the right one for that person.
3-Sleep without PAP is better than torture by PAP.
4-No sleep is worse than sleep with a sleep aid.
