Hello!

Please forgive my prompt concern because I am not prepared properly but I am a wife of a husband who I believe is still in denial. It seems that this is a common trend as we dont want to accept this is happening.

My husband was finally diagnosed after begging him to get checked out with severe sleep anpea which I was told out of a 100 pt system, he was a 94. He is 40 yrs old.

He wakes up nightly about 4-7 times and snores so very loud. His body makes sudden jerks, restless legs that seem to slap each other when he is resting on his side, and of crs his breathing which seems to stop almost every other breath. He seems to be borderline Narcopleptic (sp?) because he can not stay away throughout they day in every function he performs. I am so worried about his health, job and happiness as it takes such a strain on the marriage (add a child with special needs, and I feel lonely).

So, he was given a CPAP ( Phillips, remstar respronics) with a mask that was covering his nose and mouth which he drools excessively and would wake up choking on his drool and obviously the icky feeling of swallowing it back. YUCK! So he figured out how to change the extreme air flow and lower it and bought a nasal mechanism (Remsmed Swift FX - so it says on it) and yes this was all done with no research or help from a health provider.

I know everyone is going to say go back to the doctor which is a military doctor and useless OR my husband is very selective on what he tells him which the results alone of the sleep study should flag the provider to take it more seriously.

I know you are probably going to say he has to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation but can you give any words of advice, product recommendations based on his symtoms or other imput.

I am so fed up....

Have you got a copy of the sleep study? What is his prescribed pressure? Does the machine have a humidifier? what Brand and model machine is it? What settings were chainged? If he is having apnea simptoms the pressure acts as an air splint to keep his airway open so lowering the pressure may be "shooting yourself in the foot" It is a process getting used to and properly set up on cpap but it can keep the comorbidities from getting worse. Good Sleep,Chris

Can you see a non military doc? if the one you saw is not to your liking?

Is he using it nightly and is he feeling any better?  He might not have been right to change pressure, but changing masks to one he can tolerate is just smart.  Do you see any positive changes, yet?  We all hate to go back to useless doctors.
