1-on-1 Educational Sessions on Navigating Maze Of Getting Well with Sleep Apnea

SleepGuide would like to introduce a paid "hotline" of sorts for anyone who wants 1-on-1 information over the phone: http://www.sleepsearch.com/services/sleepguide-service

This forum is and will always be an open forum where questions will be asked and answered, 24-7, free of charge.  But http://www.sleepsearch.com/services/sleepguide-service is a premium service for people who want to discuss matters individually.

Rock, our star of a Sleep Tech, will be heading up this service and personally available for each and every phone call.

This service is another way SleepGuide is bringing power to the people.

Rock on!

I think it's a great idea. Our professionals, and of course Rock always comes to mind, give tirelessly on the forum. This service will give all of us the chance to have his undivided attention and to give something back to him. I think the price is reasonable considering how much someone might save by guidance in the right direction. The response time is better than most doctor's offices.Good luck in this endeavor.

I never know what to say in these post. Weird huh? Normally I have no problem saying what is on my mind.

As a bartender/restaurant employee for so many years I developed a nack for reading people. We used to take turns profiling our customers. This skill has been a true blessing in my transition from the hospitality industry to being a sleep medicine technologist. Determining the level of knowledge and the degree of education needed can be a fine line to walk with the current medical rules. I try to give the people that I see as much of an education as I am allowed without confusing them. I inform them on the importance of finding the right mask, and offer a plan to assist them. I inform them of the difficulties that they may face with the current system. Finally I try to educate them on how they can take a little control of their therapy by getting a fully data capable machine. Sometimes though I can just tell that some of these people are going to fall through the cracks. These are the types of people that this service is for.

This service is limited to a set of standards provided by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist. A code of ethics if you will.

I am not a doctor or will I try to take the place of one. I am not here to diagnose. I will assist you in determining what questions need to be asked of your sleep team.

I will not teach you how to change your pressures. That is prescription tampering and will cause me to lose my credentials. However if your prefer to have "tweaking control" I will assist you in finding a doctor that will address those specific needs. I will also assist you in interpreting you own PAP data, so that you may ask better questions of you physiscians.

The ultimate goal of this service for me is to troubleshoot sleep. This is my passion. What I enjoy most. By troubleshooting your sleep we can eliminate possible threats to your nighttime restoration. Once external sleep threats are eliminated we can better help determine if a doctor or re-titration is needed. I believe that if all of the sleep community, patients and practioners alike, work together we will conquer sleep problems.

I would like to remind everyone that prior to my sleep career that I was an uneducated nobody. An everyday Joe with very normal problems. I was a "taker" from life with very little effort for giving back to the community pot. This is my chance to help others while taking care of my family. I will not let either down. If you do not participate in this or any other service offered by sleepguide please help spread the word that this is a community that cares.

Sincerely Yours,

Rock Hinkle
I would like to know what everyone thinks of the new service. What kind of things do you think it should offer? Please use this discussion to inform myself and the other techs what kind of services you would like to see. What kind of service you expect? In what ways can we better educate you, our patients, our communities, and the rest of the world?
