I am getting so aggravated with this problem, I am about ready to throw out the machine, well, almost.

I have  switched machines, and since then have had this problem. I don't mouth breathe. If I did the sound of the blast of air escaping my mouth would wake me up.

But this problem is causing me to wake up all during the night, so there is really no help in sleeping here. I use a nasal mask, and the machine is a F&P SleepStyle 600. The level is only on 7, so I just don't understand.

I did try a different type mask and still had the same problem.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I would be so grateful.

99, thanks for that info, but that sure does seem like a lot of work, almost need a mechanical degree to do all that.

john, I use nasal pillows, and would be willing to try a chin strap. But can you buy these without a RX or do I have to go back to the dr for one?

Thanks for the  input~!

Peggy,

In my area, you would need a prescription for one, especially if you want your insurance to pay for it.  I would suggest that you call your DME provider and ask.  You doctor should not have a problem giving a prescription for a chin strap, especially if you have been on CPAP for a while.  (unless you are due for a follow-up visit)

I usually don't suggest that you look on the internet, but I have been told that some internet vendors of CPAP supplies will sell chin straps without a prescription.  I haven't looked myself.

One other thought, make sure that your pillows are fitting properly, and not leaking, especially in all positions you sleep in.  Many times, people push the interface into their pillow, and cause a leak.

I would be interested to know how you make out.

John

John, I thank you for your interest in helping me with this. I can't tell you how frustrating this has been. I was unable to wear the face mask so had to use the pillows. I don't think I have any leakage. I am such a light sleeper, and if I turn in such a position that it starts "hissing"  I wake up rather quickly. Plus my bed partner is too.

I tried increasing the sea level up last night like I had said, and opened my mouth a few times then, which woke me up. So, I am pretty sure, I had not been mouth breathing, as it would have awakened me. I am going to try one more night on this new level and also look into getting chin straps. I have different sizes of the nasal pillow so that has been resolved.

Merry Christmas

Peggy

Happy Birthday Jesus!

Hi Peggy, Do you have the hose suspended (hose managment system) it takes most of the hose weight so their is less tugging when you move .You dont need anything fancy a cup hook and some rubber bands will do. You can make your own chin strap .I have seen postings of using a stocking for a chin strap.Good Sleep, Chris
Chris, That is very inventive, and cost effective. I like that part!
1cc of aceatic acid is enough for 100 gallans of water so you do not need a lot to make water wetter
