Does anyone know about the ResMed S9?
Hi, I'm new to this sleep apnea thing. Just diagnosed in September. Just go my ResMedS9 last night. It is an auto CPAP they told me, and not the elite model. Had the worst night's sleep in 6 years! Could not sleep at all until I took my sodium oxybate and then could only sleep for 2 hours where I usually sleep for 4-5 hours. Felt like I was suffocating. Had to keep taking the nasal pillows out to catch my breath. I think they were Swift FX pillows or something like that.
Besides the recent apnea I also have chronic insomnia since I was 16 probably due to PTSD. My sleep study showed only 3 apneas but 52 hypopneas. I also had 27 other arousals not due to breathing. I am a very, very light sleeper. It the wind blows, it wakes me up. If the house creaks, I wake up.
The sleep doc didn't want to do a titration sleep study knowing that there was a good possibility I wouldn't sleep and he didn't want to put his staff through that. I am told he is a top doctor. I am beginning to wonder.
Was wondering if there was anything I could do to the machine to help me breathe. Does anyone know how to adjust the machine? I couldn't figure it out. The humidity was at 4.5, the ramp was low at 4 the RT told me and would ramp to 5 at 45 minutes. He set the EPR at 3 thinking it could help me breathe better. Does anyone know how I can read the machine to find out how I slept? Or do they keep that information from us?

mary mary only a few things are need for now so slow down
what is the most urgent problem and work at that fisrt
the s9 is a good machine and it is an auto that is very good
what instructions did you recieve for the set up
is the machine in auto mode for titration, that would be good
remember one step at a time

I'm currently using the s9 auto. You actually have the top of the line if it's the s9 auto. For all the clinical data, res med requires a clinician's manual or module that only the dme's are suppposed to have. needless to say I already figured out the s9. email me and I'll pass on what I know. there are a few things that you should consider: the machine comes set up to the dme with pressures of 4 to 20. It sounds like nothing was changed for settings on your machine. The ramp is supposed to help but it sounds like it's so low that you're having trouble breathing. That is not a good thing. the best person for information of changing your pressure is your RT or even better, your doc. Since you haven't had a sleep study, they should be amenable to helping you adjust the pressures. I would not play with the pressures until you've talked with the docs but it definitely sounds like you need to do so. I also had problems like this but can say once everything was ironed out, sleeping is better. It's worth working through. You may find it also helps decrease the insomnia. It did for me.

99, I did not receive any instructions for set up. The RT did it all. And regarding titration, did you mean ramp? It is set for 4 for the ramp for 45 minutes, then it goes to 5. Since it is auto I guess it goes anywhere after that as needed. Thanks.

the s9 is like a rolls royce it is the latest of resmed products and very good
titration is to set the machine at the correct pressure
ramp is the time before the set pressure kicks in and is usfully for newbies but is rarely used by the seasoned papers

The titration is between 5 and 10. The ramp is only 4.
