Can the Encore Viewer software detect awakenings?
I am about to order the software. In fact I will order no matter how my question is answered. After a sleep study in June that showed an overwhelming number or arrousals I had a second sleep study and titration done. The arrousal numbers were much better but it seems that no matter what setting they tried I continue to have frequent mini wakenings. I'm hoping the software will be able to track those although I will admit that I don't see how that could be done.
Figured that someone on here will know.

Did they actually say "mini awakenings"? There is an all be it small difference between an arousal and an awakening. An arousal could be just going from a deeper stage of sleep to a lighter one. You do not necessarily have to "wake up". Do you by chance grind your teeth? this is the third most common cause of sleep arousals. SDBs and leg movements would be the first 2 in that order.

Could be jnk, but it does nothing to help get to the source of the problem. In my experience I have found that it is better to be straight forward with the people that I care for. The dumb it down method tends to lead to frustration.
How long have you been on PAP Pat? I assumed that you had been on a while without asking.

I don't believe in finding arousals with flow data alone, but then again, I don't believe in definitively labeling centrals without the use of effort belts either, so what do I know? :-)
I knew I liked you for a reason jnk. You can't label centrals without the effort belts. On a psg we would never use the flow channels to measure arousals. However you can see them in those channels sometimes. I do not believe it possible on the Resmed machine. I might need to borrow a PR1 just to see how sensitive there flow channels are.

I'm sorry I take so long to respond. I'm just not feeling well enough to get on line very often. I have other physical problems as well as sleep problems. I'll try to answer your questions.I've been using 1 or another form of PAP for over a dozen years. I was on BiPAP 11/7 for the past two years. Earlier this year I felt I needed an adjustment. In June I had a study that showed406 arrousals.to a wake state and I was given a Respironic auto advanced SV machine. Whatever the setting it was horrible for me. On 10/4 I had a sleep study at a different clinic. This showed a sleep effeiciency 60.20% There were not as many awakenings but they lasted longer. I now have yet another machine, Respironics BiPAP. 18/14. I also have been told to use a full face mask instead of a nasal mask. I have been having a terrible time finding a mask that doesn't leak at that pressure.
I have thought about scanning my reports in and posting them but haven't had the energy. I am sooo grateful to the members of this group.

Pat I would like to see your reports if it is not to much of a bother. I am not an MD or can I tell you how to set your machine. I will however help you find the right questions to ask your team if possible.
Do you grind your teeth? If so was this confirmed by your dentist?
Do you have a history of neuro problems? Tremors? Fibromyalgia? Chronic pain?
Did they say anything about alpha intrusion?
What about leg movements?

Pat, a mask I have found that does not leak at high pressures is the Respironics FitLife Total Face Mask. I have used it, with a couple of modifications, at 25/22, and currently at 16/12.
I wear a knit cap on just the crown of my head to help take up some of the slack in the straps and a stretch seat headband across the bottom, under my chin from connector to connector to keep it from sliding up. You may not need to do either of these.
Hope you get feeling better. I know it's tough when you try so hard and it's just not working...plus other things going on.

at presuent it is painfully slow i have completed 99.8% and that was about a day ago and i am still waiting my 0.2% to load but it is free
i down loaded the 32bit no problem but it was the wrong version as i needed 64bit
load a free torrent
then in google type in respironics encore pro 64bit torrent
do not forget to put in torrent
and away to go

Mary I tried that mask. It didn't work well for me, perhaps because each side of my face is slightly different. I had Bell's Palsy which made some changes plus I chipped a cheekbone years ago by getting in the way of a car door as it was slammed.

i am in without the 0.2 that did not load as they were help files
will take it for a run in a couple of days from now as i am to busy at present
