Afraid I'll get stuck with a crappy machine because of my insurance
well, i go back to the sleep clinic tomorrow to discuss the results of my sleep study. im sure he will prescribe a cpap machine. this leads me to worry about my crappy insurance. i have already talked to one dme that takes my insurance and all he did was gripe about dealing with that company. he also told me they will only pay for one kind of machine and one kind of mask. my question is, what if my doctor prescribes something else? what if i get stuck with a crappy bottom of the line machine? is there anything i can do about it? i wonder if all dme places will tell me the same thing? no onwe in the town im from will even take this insurance.
sorry about the lack of capitalization and punctuation. doing this from my phone and it doesnt work so great for this sort of thing.

Oh, I don't know. I'm a PAP supporter myself, but if one has mild, or sometimes even moderate OSA, a dental device might be worthwhile at least investigating. PAP can do WONDERS for most of us, but for some the acclimating can be challenging. Dr Hakimi has just presented an alternative. Yes, it does sound like PERHAPS he is advertising but then dental appliances don't get much "coverage" as an OSA therapy and this one apparently has at least been approved by some, if not most, insurances and that in itself is an unusual and welcome turnaround from previous dental insurance (or is it medical insurance?) practices.

Well, I do appreciate the conversation and there may be things through out this thread that might help others who read it.
As for me, I got my machine last Thursday and the results have been amazing so far. I was diagnosed with severe OSA so a dental device would likely not have helped me. The AutoPAP is working better than I could have hoped. I want to specifically thank the people who told me not to give up. You are a true blessing and I appreciate you all.

jeff, am I mixed up here? It is the good dentist selling the VIAdmd, Dr. Farhad Hakimi, not Mark Hixson. Did Dr. Hakimi get special permission from the SleepGuide Crew or did he just slide his blatent SPAM right in here? The dentist selling this device does NO sleep studies to prove or disprove sleep apnea, he just sells.

Really j n k? I am not saying anything about advertising a good product or service that pertains to the discussion. I was questioning and looking for an answer of how you can prescribe a medical device to someone through a blog.....I advertise my website to people that are already on CPAP or have just been diagnosed as an alternative to getting their equipment. I have nothing against oral devices for treatment of mild sleep apnea for the right patient. My point is, i was questioning the method used because he was talking to someone that did not fail CPAP...Besides I would think people would like the deals that i am willing to give because i'm part of this group. I enjoy the debates and discussions of this sleep community and i'm passionate about what i do. I could be fake and politically correct all the time but that is just not me....

I was angry as the dentist's solicitation of business was unrelated to the thread and because his device/website offers no proof of success, and his office says they do not do sleep testing.
I didn't get your other point about all advertising until you explained it this time, jeff. Thanks.

Jeff, i'm sorry if you have a problem with this but i was honestly just trying to help someone out because i have the power to do so....I don't see anything wrong with that.. I'm not hiding anything, i want people to buy from my website but i don't need for anyone from here to buy from me. I spend thousands a month in advertising that takes care of that.

Mark, I agree 100% and thank you for the post. I would like for Dr. Hakimi to answer your question.
Dr. Hakimi, I think it was inappropriate to make that post in this thread and this context. If you had made the same post in a new discussion started by you, IMO, it would have been appropriate and possibly helpful to some reading the forum.
I will also make a comment on your website. Most SleepGuide members want to be fully informed about sleep apnea and possible treatments. Your website gives only a vague description of the oral device and gives no clear detailed photos or drawings. It also leaves the "Hakimi method" as quite mysterious. That is not satisfactory to me for making a decision about a consultation with your practice. I am currently considering an oral device and when I decide to consult with a dentist, it will be with one who has described the devices he uses in great detail. I do not have the time, money or energy to make consultations with practitioners promoting mysterious and vaguely described devices and therapy.
I do hope you provide some more details.
