I'm sure you'll get recommendations to ask for a fully data capable machine and the best one out there. Talk to your Doctor and search the discussions here- there have been many reviews and suggestions about what machine you might want.
Good luck, sorry I can't be more helpful. I just really wanted to say you've asked the right folks.
Again, good luck,
Mary Z.
I would insist on a fully data capable CPAP and make it clear I would not accept anything less. YOU are paying for this equipment, whether thru insurance or out of pocket is immaterial, YOU are still the one paying for it. It is YOUR sleep, YOUR therapy, YOUR health. Of course, you have the right to politely insist on accepting ONLY a fully data capable CPAP.

The Resmed S8 Elite II w/EPR is a good choice for a straight CPAP.
The Resmed S8 AutoSet II is a good choice for an AutoPAP (APAP).
The Resmed VPAP Auto is a good choice for a bi-level.

Your sleep doctor will be the one to decide which type of xPAP you need. You just want to insist that whatever type xPAP it might be, it MUST be fully data capable or you won't accept it.

Just because an xPAP has a data card does NOT mean it is fully data capable. The Resmed xPAPs I mentioned above all are. Not all Resmed xPAPs are fully data capable.

Not all Respironics xPAPs are fully data capable either.
The Respironics M Series Pro w/C-flex is fully data capable.
The Respironics M Series Auto w/C-flex or w/A-flex is fully data capable.
The Respironics M Series Bi-PAP w/Bi-flex is fully data capable.

The DeVilBiss IntelliPAP AutoAdjust is fully data capable.
The DeVilBiss IntelliPAP Bi-level is fully data capable.
I'm not sure about the DeVilBiss IntelliPAP Standard.

The Covidien (Puritan Bennet) Sandman Info (NOT the Intro) is fully data capable.
The Covidien (Puritan Bennet) Sandman AutoAdjust is fully data capable.

Fisher & Paykel make 2 fully data capable xPAPs but rather than a name for their models they give them a number and I can never remember which number is which device.
Thank You So much info they never told me

oh and photocopy your script for futcer referecences and if posible give them the copy and keep the original script
That's because the sleep doctors don't have a clue about the various brands and models of xPAPs that are available. There are just too many.

It is considered sufficient that they recognize that you need a CPAP, a bi-level or an even more sophisticated xPAP. They are satisfied to leave it up to the local DME providers to provide you w/a good brand and model of the type your sleep doctor has scripted. Unfortunately, that brings the profit margins into play and new xPAP patients aren't made aware that they DO HAVE CHOICES.
I went to Dr. The lab said they don't carry or work with home data capable machines.
Then HURRY, request a copy of your equipment order (prescription)!!! Its part of your medical records, they have to give it to you on request under HIPAA.

Cancel the order or return or refuse the equipment they give you. Call your insurance, find out what other local providers are in network. Take your script and shop them there for your equipment and INSIST on a fully data capable CPAP. If your doctor was a real a$$ and wrote the script for a specific CPAP that is only capable of compliance data only go to your family doctor and have him write a new script for the equipment you want.

If the sleep doctor squawks at all just tell him tough t*tty, YOU are paying for the equipment, it is YOUR sleep, YOUR therapy and YOUR health, YOU make the final decisions!!! Thank him for his services and walk out!!!!
