Adam from Mythbusters has sleep apnea
I saw last night on Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel that Adam has sleep apnea. I wrote an article about it to create awareness.

Every time I hear about someone famous with sleep apnea, I feel more comfortable about having it too. What do you think?

I wonder if his apnea was discovered while he was being filmed at the sleep clinic or if he knew about it before then. If he knew about it, he should have been using CPAP while he was sleeping there.

He was shown not wearing a mask or using a CPAP and further details were omitted.
The good news is that the camera went on the polysomnigram readings and costar Jamie on the show pointed out that Adam was not able to sleep normally. An example of normal polysomnigram readings were shown in contrast.
If someone was on the fence about using a CPAP regularly, seeing the polysomnigram of someone failing to use a CPAP should be a "wake up call".

I hear through the grapevine that James Gandolfini who played Tony Soprano in the Sopranos has Sleep Apnea. I do feel good about that somehow -- not in a bad way that i like it when other people are sick... just a kind of feeling that if someone famous has it it's more acceptable somehow. it's an emotional thing. doesn't make sense.

Yes, I understand what you mean, I kinda can't explain it, I don't want anyone else to be sick, but it somehow made it more cool, when I just found out James Gandolfini has it, "Good Grapevine, Mike" wouldn't it be cool if we knew what kind of equipment they use or prefer, or what works for them, and how they get thru the tough times,I think for me it's seeing that you can have a life, you can have a job, sometimes I get so down on myself, especially when I look around me and see people being normal, doing everyday things, living without having to stop and rest every 15 min. I admire that, I see the majority of all of you, my new friends, are professionals, go to jobs everyday, your all an inspiration, I'm a nurse, and haven't worked for the last 9 years, I miss it, I miss taking care of people, and making a little difference in someones life. sorry for babbling, Hugs to all of you, Lisa PS Wishing All of You A Wonderful New Year

I guess that it goes to show you that it doesn't matter who you are, this disease can strike anyone. You don't want to wish this on anyone, but it does give you a sense of "we;re all in the same boat" when you hear of someone famous having it. I just wish that a famous person that has it, would come forward and maybe host some kind of special on TV about it. I have told people about my own situation and very few out there have a clue what Sleep Apnea is. I recently had a "little talk" with a coworker and scared him into going for a sleep study and he ended up on C-Pap. He now can't thank me enough for convincing him to get tested. This is what we need from someone that we all know, who can explain what it is, show a sleep study, explain the damage that sleep apnea can cause and the difference that C-Pap can make. If I was famous I'd do it, but oh well.

I wonder if 'they' wake up with 'mask marks' also?? Yup! And I stop and think....THEY were, at one time, no different than you and I, before they 'made it'. I don't know if that takes us up to their level, or vice versa, but it sort of levels the playing field - and there's nothing wrong in feeling better about that. "

Be interesting to know how many of them that we aren't really familiar with were overweight! Some of those names bring an image to mind that say " aha, they ARE OVERWEIGHT!"

If this is true - the idea of someone i share a birthdate with has this dread disease and is dealing with it in some fashion is a comfort to me...

I kinda get this, Michael. For me, having apnea makes me feel.....I don't know exactly, but different somehow. I don't like it. It seems sometimes that there's some kind of stigma attached to apnea, maybe because some people are so reluctant to talk about it or hear about it. I wonder if that's true or if it's just in my mind 'cause I'm not fully adjusted to having it. I hope there's a "yet" attached to that.....
Maybe knowing someone of privilege, like famous people usually are, has apnea somehow makes it feel more normal. Or less "abnormal". Privileged, beautiful people aren't typically seen as having any flaws (they DO, but for some reason our culture enjoys thinking they're perfect in some way). I feel like I'm rambling about this and not making much sense, but you've really made me think about this. I guess I'm thinking out loud.....it's a point worth discussing though. You and I can't be the only ones who feel this way.
