Here are a few questions for those patients of sleep centers.

Here are a few questions for those patients of sleep centers.
How important is the sleep techs appearance, such as clean shaven, hair clean and neat, and girl’s hair pulled back, uniform and lab coat clean and pressed.
Do you prefer rooms to be more like a bedroom at home or have more of a clinical feel?
If male do you prefer male techs?
If female do you prefer female techs?

Other questions not asked:

I prefer to know in advance what the details of the sleep study will be.
I prefer to have the opportunity in advance to view the room and general layout.
Temperature of the room is important. Too cold (with blankets available) is better than too warm.
Ability to see and possibly try on CPAP masks in advance (if first time using CPAP) is important.
Ability to communicate easily with reviewing doctor is very important.
Ability to communicate with sleep techs before and after the sleep study is very important.
Comfortable bed is very important.
Timely availability of results is very important.
It is very important to me to see that all of the items used are sealed and opened in my presence.

My first sleep study experience:
Plenty of information mailed to me in advance, describing procedure, times, what I can and cannot bring, etc.
Techs were very accomodating.
Room was laid out more like hotel room than hospital room.
Temperature and bed were comfortable.
Results were not available until >2 weeks after study.
Tech offered email address for any followup questions, but did not reply to my question emailed after the study.
Reviewing doctor unavailable.
Study results unavailable, except I was able to see some of the report in a followup visit to my doctor.
Woken from sleep study at the ungodly hour of 5:30am!

My second sleep study experience:
Plenty of information mailed to me in advance, describing procedure, times, what I can and cannot bring, etc.
Techs were very accomodating.
Room was laid out more like hotel room than hospital room.
Temperature was very hot, and bed was uncomfortable, with thick plastic sheet on bottom.
Results are still not available 4 weeks after study.
Reviewing doctor unavailable.
Study results unavailable. Still have not seen anything from the study.
* I prefer the room and bathroom to feel like a nice hotel room and to be comfortable and clean.
* I'm female and have always had female techs, so that feels more comfortable to me when I'm in PJs and under observation.
* I expect medical professionals to look professional, which depends on the institution where the sleep clinic is located.
I don't think sex matters as long as the person who is monitoring you is a clean, well shaven, if a man, very neat appearance and has a good bedside mannor.I am a female and I had a really bad experience at my last sleep study. I had a very over weight large male who had trouble maneuvering around me to hook up my wires. I felt very uncomfortable because his stomach stuck out so far and everytime he would approach me to hook up a wire, he was rubbing against me with his belly. I hated it. I really don't feel like he was doing it on purpose, but it made me feel very uncomfortable to the point that I almsot said something to him about it. I didn't say anything to mamagement because I didn't want to cause him to lose his job so I just kept quiet about it, but I think maybe I should have said somethingt to the male nurse and let him know how it made me feel, so maybe he would be aware of the problem and not to anyone else that way. Maybe he would be more careful.

A. Professional appearance, what a novel idea. No lovely tattoos and piercing on a technician? These persons are supposed to be part of a professional practice and need to present themselves as such. Scrubs are fine and lab coats for the certified staff.

Do you prefer rooms to be more like a bedroom at home or have more of a clinical feel?

A. I expect the room to be clean and of such nature as that of a good scale motel room, i.e., Hampton Inn etc.

If male do you prefer male techs?

A. I expect a professional tech

If female do you prefer female techs?

A. I expect a professional tech.
I had a male and a female tech, the female was assigned to me. WHich I preferred. They were dressed in clean white lab coats with the name of the hospital, National Jewish Hospital, and a name tag. They were dressed in business casual. They were polite and professional.. Not too very friendly.

I had my test in a hotel, they bed was comfortable and I went to sleep really fast. I like the personal touch, I didn't want to go to a hospital setting to do the test.
Appearance of techs does make a difference - the experience is weird and disconcerting as it is; you're basically putting yourself in this person's hands, and if they look professional, it helps. I'm not sure it would matter to me whether the room felt clinical or like a bedroom - the ones I've been to that try to appear like "normal" bedrooms actually feel really strange, like you're staying in a stranger's house. I'm female and would definitely prefer a female tech, though I don't think I've ever had one. Basically, if I have to go to a sleep lab, I want to get in and out as quickly and easily as possible.
I prefer female tachs, and I want them to be clean and neat. They don't need the lab coat, but I definitely want their scrubs to be pressed. I also like a hotel appearance to the room. I want to be able to control the temperature, and I want to be able to sleep in a quiet environment. The techs should not be making any noise in the hallways.

It is difficult enough to sleep in a sleep lab with all the wires and electrodes they have attached to you, knowing someone is watching you at all times, without the noise of partying techs.
Tech appearance is really important; it is a little creepy to go to a strange place to fall asleep and be "watched" by someone, so it is important that the tech appear very professional.
Bedroom feel preferred
Do not have a preference for male or female tech (I am female)
Prefer home studies with portable equipment and self-titration for simple OSA cases.
I feel the techs shold look and act professional, for me it instills confidence in the process.

My room was like a bedroom and it was very comfortable feeling

as female I prefer a female tech
I was so impressed with my first sleep lab I wrote a letter to the director. Clean, neat, nicely dressed male technician. He explained everything as he went, used new equipment, had no trouble attaching all the leads and explained it all. When I had to go to the bathroom he was right there. The room and bed were comfortable and they made sure the temperature was good for me. When a lead on my leg came loose he came right away. I felt very confident in his abilities and professionalism.
I weant to another sleep center where the tech had trouble hooking up the head leads- the adhesive wouldn't stick.. He took a lot of time. I figured after my first experience that he didn't clean the areas well enough. Not so impressed with him.
