I was talking with my son's wife yesterday.

She said Tony (my son) has been having some issues with high blood pressure, heart irregularities, feeling "weird", and some chest pains. They put him on high blood pressure medicine but they haven't gotten the doseage right and so had another appointment yesterday.

He did a stress test and passed it. No additional testing was done at this point (last week).

He is going to a primary care physician (not the same doctor I go to). The doctor did not do a referral to one of the of the cardiac doctors in town. Said she could take care of it. She ordered him a heart monitor to be worn a month and they will see what the results indicate.

Near the end of the conversation Jeanna said the doctor thought Tony may have sleep apnea and that may be impacting his health. No MENTION of a referral for a sleep study at all. The doctor told my son IF the heart monitor didn't show anything she would refer him to an ENT to have his deviated septum fixed and that would CURE his sleep apnea. Still no mention of having a sleep study done.

This doctor is why so many don't trust the medical field.

I WILL be encouraging him to get a sleep study done. I will also tell him fixing his deviated septum may not fix any sleep apnea if he has it and to be sure and do a follow up sleep study after the surgery.
And, if his deviation is slight, he may well NOT need the septoplasty. It may well just NOT be worth the discomfort and expense of time and money.
Does he still have his tonsils and adnoids? Does he snore? Is he hyperactive? Figure out what if any apnea symtoms he has and take them to the doc.
He is the one that sleepwalks. He has major depression at times and has been diagnosed bi-polar.
we need to educate the educators that is the ones training doctors to be doctors as part of their training it must start at the top and let it filter down and in the mean time target those doctors in the front line

my blood pressre kept going up and up and i was taking 5 diffrent blood pressure tablets for many years before being diagnosed with osa

typical symtoms to look out for is morning headaches, dry mouth etc
why do so many feel a deviated septum is the problem of sleep apnea? It is rare to find a nasal snore, most are throat.... drives me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!
