This video is difficult to watch. I use it as a training tool for my patients. Not until we are on film do you actually get an idea of what you look like. I can actually hear the change in my voice from the excessive tissue.
Dang, Wayne, WAY TO GO!!!!!!!! Now THERE'S a role model for us all who are dealing with this dumbass disease. I'm finally doing a little better, but if it were a few weeks ago, and I'd known how hard you've worked to get yourself healthy, it sure would have been an inspiration to me. You've been on here since before I, but I had no idea how much you've accomplished for yourself!! So much for MY attention scan on apnea!!

Just wanted to say hi, again, and to congratulate you.....

Susan it is one day at a time. Walking start out just 5 minutes a day increase by 1 to 2 mintes each day. I am in the process of weaning myself off meat and using soy and will eventually be lacto-Ovo veg. This is what works for me.. you will find what works for you.

Congratulations on your weight loss and your ability to stop smoking!!

I have been trying really hard to get in more walking in my daily routine. At school, it really isn't a problem, except making myself do it. Several of the teachers stay after school and walk our hallway, 7 laps equal one mile. I haven't walked with them yet, I simply can not keep up with them. They are all thin and trim. I am obese and older by probably 10 years. I am not trying to make excuses for not joining them, but at times, they can make catty remarks about those of us that are not the athletic type. I don't need that kind of negative thinking and make myself make that extra trip to the new part of the building and know that I am making myself more fit, albeit slowly. I am doing better and will continue to push on.
Again, congratulations on your getting healthy.
Carol, don't let anyone who's "slim and trim" give you that kind of crap. The people I know who are athletic and in good shape tend to be encouraging, not discouraging. There's an arrogance about that that smacks of adolescence, 'ya know? Just trust your own gut sense of what you need. Like DW said, it's one step at a time, and every one counts!

I've gotten my weight pretty much where it needs to be, but I've had a LOT of trouble getting back onto my walking program. It's an issue of energy. I know exercise creates energy--I've walked for years up until late spring this year, prior to be diagnosed with apnea--but in this case, I can barely get a tenth of the distance I'm used to walking to say nothing of no speed in me. It doesn't energize me like it ordinarily would--it wears me out. Rock told me just recently the same thing DW is saying--Rock said "Baby steps, Susan, baby steps". He's right. So do what you can, and maybe just a little beyond what you think you can do, and you'll get there. I'm older too and what they say is really true. It's a lot harder to lose weight the older you get. It's possible though, so keep the faith. If you want me to come over and flip off your teaching cohorts, I'd be more than happy to!!!! Makes me wonder how they go about the business of motivating children......

D.W.--I agree with the walking program you're endorsing here. It's worked for me for a long time. This time it's a different kettle of fish, but it really is just one foot in front of the other. My weight's in good shape and was before I knew about apnea. It's an energy issue for me now. (I just explained that piece of MY recent descent into lack of fitness to Sleepy Carol a minute ago)--but I'm just now beginning to feel a little bit of energy returning. Am hopeful that I get it back 'cause I've always had a lot of energy.....

Thanks for the encouragement --- it means a lot.

Seems to be a bunch of school teachers here... I started out life as an art teacher k thru 12 could not make ends meet on school teachers salary so went back into medical. I lasted 1 semester!
