We used a waterbed for a number of years. This was in the early 80's when they were all the rage and you just had to own a waterbed!!! Well after about 22 years or so, we decided to switch back to a regular mattress. Our waterbed was king size and I knew that I did not want to give up the size.

I shopped around and made all of the furniture stores in town. I was having some significant pain in my back and was on duragesic for the pain. The mattress I settled on was a pillow top king, at the low end of the price range we could afford. So we have been using that mattress for approximately 5 or 6 years now.

I didn't realize how much the mattress had contributed to my not sleeping well, until we purchased a latex foam mattress. The mattress had no innersprings and is made up of high density latex (between 9 and 10 inches worth approximately). After a couple nights of sleeping on it, I realized it was too firm for me. I purchased a Coolmax tempurpedic mattress topper. Talk about getting a good nights sleep!!! I am now more rested and refreshed in the morning.

If it has been awhile since you have replaced your mattress I suggest you take a look at it and see if you would benefit from purchasing a new mattress. The reason for this post, we often blame a lousy night of sleep on our machines when it could be something unrelated.

Great point. Sounds like you got a top notch mattress. I've heard good things about latex material with no springs.
We recently added 4" of "memory foam" toppers on our bed. (available from QVC) A much better night's sleep than the standard mattress and box springs. Only trouble is that extra 4 " makes it rough on a short guy when trying to climb into bed. (Now where did I put that step stool?) The memory's failing also.
We need a new mattress. My wife's mom bought us one when we got married. the problem was that she prefers a hard mattress. i appreciate the gesture, but i think it has caused me some back problems. i have heard a rumor that sleep techs have some extra bargaining tools with sleep number and tempurpedic.
Hmm, maybe we should look into a mattress that you can put a wine glass on and jump on without spilling the wine.
It would be nice. I think I have to many things going on right now to pay for a $3000 mattress. With or without a discount.

Maybe a mattress that would let our cat jump on it w/o spilling the wine is good enough.
