Hello all. I'm kind of excited because I talked to Kaiser Hospital and was able to get an appointment tomorrow with a new sleep doctor. I want to set the stage with her and let her know, in a nice way of course, that she needs to know that I will be taking an active roll in my therapy. Since I seem to forget everything and quite often my mind goes blank at the doctors. Could someone here post questions I should ask, statements I should make etc. so I can sound like I know what I'm talking about. Which I think I do for the most part but, my mind is so squirrly! I want to ask her to authorize an a pap machine for me, which she probably won't, but, which one should I ask for?

I'd ask her for either the Respironics M Series Pro Auto Adjusting CPAP with A-Flex, or the ResMed S8ii with EPR auto adjusting CPAP. those are both machines that record how long you use the machine (compliance data) as well as how well you're being treated by the machine (efficacy data).

Ask her how open she is and how often she would be willing to analyze the data you get off the machine to determine what to do about your Apneas, hypopneas, leaks, etc. She should be open to doing that often.

Ask her what her definition of success is. If it's just the machine blowing all night long (without regard to how effective that blowing is), then move on...
Thanks Mike! And here I am up too late, going to bed now.

A nice thing about the ResMed VPAP Auto 25 is that it has a number of operating modes so that you and your doctor can vary the kind of treatment you are receiving w/o having to change machines. It does straight single value CPAP, BiPAP and autotitrating VPAP whatever turns out to be the most effective in your case.
