I washed my mask and hose today. BUT I put them in the sink antibacterial dishwashing soap and a tiny bit of bleach, then walked off and forget about them. I'm not sure how long they sat and soaked but it might have been a couple of hours. I rinsed them REALLY well and for a long time, but now the hose still smells like bleach and the mask feels kinda weird, like softer or something.

My questions are: 1. Did I ruin them?
2. Is it safe to use the hose if it still smells like bleach?

Susan - I'd guess that you are okay. You've rinsed and re-cleaned, I wouldn't worry about it, I'd say you have it all fixed.

Go to bed, get your sleep. Don't let this keep you awake, I'll be thinking about you (I'm at work... 7:30pm to 8:30am... I'll get some sleep tomorrow..).

OH...MY...GOD!!!!! I had no idea.....Won't be doin' THAT again. It doesn't smell at ALL like bleach, at least the hose doesn't. The mask smells more like dish soap than bleach since I redid it all. Do you think it's okay????????????

Susan, I just re-read your original post.....

NEVER, NEVER mix anti-bacterial soap with bleach!!!!! Check the ingredient label on the soap.... Anti-bacterial soaps are usually ammonia based. Ammonia + bleach = chlorine gas. Chlorine gas is poisonous.

I'd say you have likely rinsed the bejeebers out of that sucker, and there's little to no risk at this point, but play it safe from now on. :-)
Thanks for checking back with me. 'Specially when you're working.....

I've got my hose dried out now, and everything hooked back up. The hose is fine, but the mask still kinda smells like detergent which doesn't thrill me. But it's a heck of a lot better than snorting bleach all night!! What a night. Every day's an adventure. Or an adventure looking for a place to happen!

You're a very sweet person. I'm glad to be in touch with you in this big ol' world.....

-Susan :-)
