I tried to become a polysomnography technician but I found out that a&p is to hard for me to pass. I did learn that sleep problems are becoming more of a problem every day.

you should talk to our friend/fellow member Rock Hinkle. He's a sleep tech i.e., polysomnography technician, and is very much on a learning curve as a labor of love. bet you could join him and it wouldn't be too hard. if you have a passion for it, i say get out your own way/fear of failure and try.

Sorry to hear about your dad. It is tough. I listened to my grandfather snore for years(not knowing about apnea of course). We lost him to a massive stroke. What can I do for you Barry?

I have been in sleep for about 15 months. It is honestly the best gig I have ever had. Stay at home go to work, it is all equally entertaining. I have truly found my calling. What kind of information are you looking for?

Barry it is difficult to loose anyone in anyway, especially when you see that you might have been able to prevent it. However, it could have been anything that could have taken his life. There are opportunities in life where so much pain is created that people do something about it. I feel that you could be a great advocate to have so many of the 2 to 3 percent of people in the US that still remain undiagnosed.

The pain that you feel for your loved one can be turned into a great opportunity for healing and prevention. There are not that many people that would be able to approach it in this way, I think that is a blessing in a way.

May god bless you in a manner that is not yet seen, that you will be able to bless others by your knowledge of this difficult situation and turn it around to honor your loved on and help to heal the pain that is so deep. Gerry

rock hinkle how do you become involved without a certificate,i am still in college , but i changed my major to mechatronics , a new course just being introduced

Now you have to go through a sleep program. Where do you live? Does your college offer a sleep program? i am having some trouble getting my list of schools to open, and I can't seem to find the one I posted on sleep guide. I'll find it and post it before the end of the day. I would call your local sleep labs and ask them what they need for you to do to be eligible. you might be able to get in on the ground floor until you figure it out. I have yet to see a sleep lab that is not growing.

Barry,
My wife is a nurse, and is having trouble passing Microbiology needed to progress from LPN to RN. I will tell you what I told her. The best way to aproach the class you are having trouble with is tackle it head on. Prepare by learning all you can about A&P before the class starts. When you start the class imediatly inquire about extra help or tutoring. Remember these roadblocks are what make us better clinicians in the end. It seams that you might have a true interest in the field of sleep, so the best of luck to you, whatever you do.

Barry- I like the idea of pounding the pavement asking sleep labs in your area whether you can work there in some sort of entry level capacity. Then you get a sense of whether you'd really like doing it, and can ask questions about how important different certificates/ admission tests are.
