I was a very active person riding my bicycle long distance and I loved down hill skiing. In the early 90's I hit a brick wall and felt much like you described. I had many medical tests and it was determined that I suffered from depression. I went on anti-depression meds. and they helped a little. After 12 years of suffering I was finally tested for sleep apnea. I had never heard about it before. I was shocked when I was told that I had a severe case of this. I got my machine and within two days I knew I had found the answer. I regained my energy and am now back participating in all the activities from the past. I also have traveled around the world with my CPAP including a month in China. This has been a miracle in my life. I still take my anti-depression meds but feel so much better. I am 63 years old and am preparing for a 5 day bicycle ride from Lansing Mi. to the Upper Penisula about 365 miles. I hope this encourages you. Yours truly, Ron Marklin
Are you always tired Victoria? Describe what is going on maybe we can figure it out. Is there a certain time of the day that you are tired? How easy is it for you to fall asleep? Are you sleeping well at night? Are you on Propanolol for hypertension or headaches?
If you typically are only getting 5 to 6 hours of sleep at night -- no wonder you are tired!!!! You need around 8 hours of sleep to feel rested. I suggest that you sleep more at night -- which shouldn't be a problem if you are tired and sleepy anyway. You probably have a high sleep debt that has incurred with the lack of sleep, topped with the sleep apnea, you may find yourself needing more sleep, instead of less sleep.
I would try to go to bed earlier in the evening, practice good sleep hygiene, and have a good physical to rule out any medical problems.
