You know, I know better, but, yeah, they're "speaking" English so I do tend to assume they are at least in North America, not so much just the USA but both USA and Canada. Unless, of course, I detect an "accent", the way sentences are worded, etc. or phrases so common to other countries such as Australia or the UK.
It really doesn't matter to me where is a person is located in the world. My ideals and beliefs are mine and mine alone.

I am not a politically correct individual and don't really care to be. I don't apologize for where I am nor feel that my country has nothing to apologize for either.

I will respect another individual until such time as they disrespect me, and/or my beliefs.

I they desire to converse with me, in my country, they then need to learn my language. If I wished to converse with them in their forum, then I will learn theirs.
Wow, no need to get so defensive, no-one is asking you to be politically correct!

What he said ^^^^^^^^^^
Actually, I believe I read not so long ago that there are more Chinese who own 'puters than "Americans". So ..... we are assuming because we are accessing english-speaking sites we're encountering mostly "Americans" or at least North Americans.
Going one further than that, more non-americans speak english than americans ;)

I think the powers that be should create a place for conversations that turn political or re-explain why they don't have one...

My opinion is these kinds of threads always go bad.

I am sorry I got political..I knew better.
Mike,
Why are you apologizing for your opinion? This thread was a bait anyway. Well, they asked.

More people speak English for one reason. Until recently, we were the power to be. The standards were set many years ago when being American meant something.

The entire aviation industry is set to English for one reason. American ingenuity is what developed the world.

The reason the Chinese speak English is if they want to succeed in the world they need to converse and study in English where the leaders in the fields were.

The problem is we, as a country, are allowing them to over run us thru our stupidity in leadership, which runs this country.

If our system was so bad, then why is what they are trying to take us to, failed in every country that has it. For those who don’t understand what their goal is, it’s socialism.

If you want proof, a simple read of the proposed heath care bill will prove it. Pay special attention to page 114 and you will see whom they really care about.

Excuse me son, please don't go pressuming to know my intentions. Firstly I don't go 'baiting' so please don't jusge me on your own standards. No-one is calling your system 'bad', in fact no-one is even commenting on it.

You really need to be a lot less sensitive and stop assuming any comments made by other is automatically an attack on your country.
i do assume almost everyone i talk to on the internet is american, unless i detect a Queen's English spelling of a word, like apnoea instead of apnea. i don't mean to be narrow minded by doing that, i'm just being honest.

anyhow, i'm curious about the conversation you had with someone last week on this topic. what was it about?
OK as soon as the over sensitive patriots can desensitise......

I co-run a discussion forum, UK based and this is pretty obvious in the forum name (www.cableforum.co.uk) yet we get spammers on daily bases and a lot of them are based in america and try to spam us with american-orinetated services, for example we had a thick spammer who tried to hit us with a company in america that hired out cranes and and industrial machinery.

Yesterday we had one who spammed us about grants from the US government for college funds, all applicable to america only. So we were wondering whether it's just that spammers are thick in general or if it's an underlying assumption that a lot of americans have that any english-speaking website you go on in in american, run by and for americans.

To people in the rest of the world this is a curious assumption - I regularly use about 15 different forums and this is the only american-based one, the rest being UK based.
Speaking of spammers, nice move Russ. that was beautiful !
