Why do they still make non data capable cpap machines?

I've read a lot here about how data capable cpap machines are the way to go, and also about how now the DMEs have to prove compliance to get paid. so my question is why even bother to put out non data capable machines any more?

1) At least for now, proving compliance with data is a new requirement for Medicare only. Data capable devices are much more expensive, so many DME providers will give these to patients with insurance other than Medicare.

2) Some people have no insurance at all, need a CPAP, and can't afford to pay very much for it. While detailed data capabilities are very nice, they are far from essential when you have to choose between getting a CPAP and not getting one because you can't afford it.

3) Inexpensive, lightweight devices are a great option for a second device for travel, camping, or those with more than one place where they sleep regularly.
Most likely they will be phased out now, at least here in the US. Maybe not on the Continent and Asia, etc. And understand, there are compliance data capable only xPAPs and then there are fully data capable xPAPs. As patients most of us prefer the latter. As a matter of cost the local DME suppliers favor the former. Too many sleep doctors don't have a clue of any differences. For those apneans w/limited financial means and no insurance any CPAP is better than none at all, even those not even capable of compliance data..
Probably boils down to economics. You can out to your local WalMart and get a pair of shoes that cost less than $20.00, or you can go to your local department store and get a pair of shoes for $125.00 or more. The latter will last longer usually and may provide better comfort and last longer. But if all you have is $20.00 the pair from WalMart look pretty good when the weather is nasty and there is snow on the ground.
