I have  just recently started using a CPAP and was given a nasal mask.  I was so excited to think I would be getting a good nights sleep but I'm having a few problems.  There are times I feel there is no air and I take off the mask which I know is all in my head, but there are also times when I'm woken up because the mask has moved and cold air is blowing in my face or freezing my nose.  I tried the other mask they gave me at the sleep lab but that just makes me unable to get comfortable in it.  Anyone having these issues that can help?

Thanks Terry, i didn't know about mask liners until i became a member of this site, i will certainly look into it.  I do have a full face mask but think its too big, so was going to look into maybe a smaller one hopefully

Deborah, what mask are you using? It shouldn't blister your cheeks or leave redness. I'm assuming it's afull face mask or nasal mask, have you tried mask liners so the mask isn't touch your face? With the air blowing in your eye's, depending on which mask you use, most have a dial at the top you can adjust also the straps at the top probably need tightening and possibly the bottom straps lossened. Keep going back to where you got the mask from until they get it right or change to another mask. It took me five before I got the one I was happy with.
I use a esmed Mirage Quattro, large, but masks come in large, medium, small and sometimes extra small for ladies. I think Mary and Kath Hope use the Respironics FitLife and like it, it seems a bit large for me but probably worth you looking around, it does sound like you have an allergic reaction to the cushion.

Yes, as Terry says, I use the Respironics FitLife which has solved all my problems with face marks, and without having to mess about with liners.  The other good thing about the FitLife is you can go back to using your own skin creams (apart from at the very edge of the face where the seal is).  Like Terry says, it looks a big mask and when I first saw I though "no way."  I actually got it originally for after a nose operation I had, as at the time I was using the Hybrid with the nasal cushions, and I didn't fancy them up my nose after the surgery.  I was so shocked at the benefits of the FitLife that I continued to use it and have never looked back.

Like someone Jim said, the nasal pillow masks are also a good option, and the Hybrid is my 2nd favourite.

My first thought on the issue of no air is do you have the EPR or Cflex turned on?  I am not able to tolerate these settings because it feels like there is no air.  The mask will move occasionally stick with it and you will figure out how to adjust it in your sleep and how to move around and not loose the seal.  Please stay in contact with your DME provider to work on these problems.  If they dont help, let your doctor know and find another provider.

Good luck

Kellie,

Getting the right mask is like finding the PERFECT pair of jeans. You just have to try them on over and over and over until you find the pair that makes it worth all the trying on! Certain things bother some people and not others. I hated the air blowing on my hands and arms, so I use a Headrest nasal pillow mask. The air blows up, not out. And I don't like the mask touching my face at all, so this mask works good for me. My husband uses a full face mask now but started with a nasal mask. It is trial and error. Hang in there and know that there are many, many options for masks and liners and machines, and one of them is bound to be your perfect fit!

Hello,

My name is Becky. I work for Naturs Design, Inc - the makers of the RemZzzs CPAP mask liners.  RemZzzs are the original CPAP mask liners. We have been on the market for over 3 years now.

RemZzzs are billable to Medicare and other private insurances.  Our all-natural cotton CPAP mask liners come in a box of 30 with 2 forehead liners.  We do have Medicare billing codes (A7031 & A7032) and we have many companies nationwide that currently carry our products.

We do recommend using 1 liner per night for hygienic/sanitary purposes, since our liners are made of cotton and absorb all of the facial oils during the night and can cause breakouts, etc when used for multiple nights.

I can get you a complimentary 6 Day Sample pack of RemZzzs for you to tryout if you email your mask brand, name and size to: social@remzzzs.com!

Please email me if you have ANY questions!!
I hope that you have a GREAT day!!  :O)

I think it's important to make the distinction between the Respuironics FullLife FFM and the Respironic FitLike Total Face Mask.  They are not the same masks.

Thank you all for your responses I am meeting with my supplier tomorrow and will keep looking.  I really appreciate the help and advice also.  I will also look into the liners too.  Thanks again and  i'll keep you all posted.

That is a VERY good point, Mary Z!!  :O)

If the air feels cold you might appreciate a humidifier with a heated tube. An alternative is to tuck the hose under the covers with you and/or put it in a hose stocking.
