Ramp Button: AsianImage posted this about the Ramp Button in another thread, but I think it deserves its own stand-alone thread so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle:

"Seems my experience is pretty much on par with everyone else. I am starting my 3rd week this week and I just learned about the "RAMP" button. OMG! I did not know about it until I chatted with insurance/cpap machine rep and i told him I wake up in the middle of the night and dont want to put it back on. He was like use the button to the left and it will slow the pressure down. WOW. last night I did it..after waking up once to use the rest room...after the pressing the button I fell back asleep and did not wake up until my alarm! LOVE THE RAMP BUTTON."

Ramps are a great feature available to pts. Most are user adjustable and vary by manufacturer. This is a fantastic tool to help compliance and ease pts through the critical early stages of cpap usage! A lot of pts I've worked with tend to not use it as much as they become more experienced users. Enjoy the ramp and rest well!!
Thanks for moving me over! YAY! I feel proud my little post gets its own thread. But yes...when I learned how to use my machine the RT never told me about the ramp. She simply told me the machine is fully auto..just let it do its thing.

But yeah I am actually excited to see to try it again tonight.
That is one button I cannot use. If I try to use it, I feel like I cannot breathe. Just my experience, I think it's great for people that need it.
i used to use it, but don't any longer. i'm with glen, it kind of clamps down on the amount of air i get, making it harder to breathe. more pressure feels more comfortable to me.

When I first started on CPAP I loved the ramp button. Had it set for a 15 or 20 minute ramp. Now I still use the ramp but have it set to only a few mintues. I like to get up to pressure right away.

What is your pressure? I bet they have the ramp set as low as it will go (4) and most people find that they can not tolerate that low of pressure. If you have a pressure that is nearing 10 or above have them set the ramp for 5 or 6 and see if that helps.
Personally I can't stand the ramp feature with a high pressure 18/14 and a full face mask. The mask would seem fine when I started to go to sleep and then when it got up to full pressure, invariably when I was just falling asleep, the mask would sprout big leaks and, pardon me, would fart on my face. I don't know how else to say it. My cheeks would puff out like a chipmunk and wake me up. I have had to figure out how to place my head and pillow and clamp the mask on tight, even though they say not to. I have to kind of squash my cheek against the pillow and lay my hand on the upper cheek, I sleep on my side. Sleeping on my back is impossible because of the problems the pressure causes.

The dry mouth the cheek puffing causes,oh my gosh! Quite often I'll wake up with my tongue glued to the roof of my mouth and cheeks. No moisture whatsoever and have to quick grab the water bottle with a straw because I can't open my mouth.

Aside from all this I have persevered. It's been 2 years now. I use it every night and for most naps if I'm lucky enough to get one. Still have problems I'm working on like, they think perhaps I am not feeling more rested because of restless leg syndrome. But that's another story...I do feel less tired during the day and don't fall asleep while reading to the little one at night anymore.
To Ramp or not to Ramp? An interesting dilemma answerable to each user only. I like several others tried to use the ramp function once or twice. What I found is that if you don't have the mask (I use a full face) seated properly, when the pressure comes up, the leak will make its presence known and I am now awake again. Sort of defeats the purpose to me. To the Ramp users, this might not be a problem. Ultimately, if it works for you and allows you to use *PAP with good results, do it. Happy Hosing!
