I have had it several years and have continued to try and get used to it, but can't. I think the inward pressure which makes me feel like I can't exhale is the problem. I feel like I can't breathe when I have the mask on with pressure of the inward air flow. I don't sleep well and badly need to be able to utilize this therapy. Plus my snoring is so bad I have to sleep in a separate room from my wife. It even disturbs my son in the next room. What can I do to beable to adjust to CPAP and successfully use it. Will a newer machine help me. I went back to the MD office who I went to for sleep study and spoke to the people who set up the machines. They said even though my machine was several years old, it was a good machine. They said the pressure settings were fairly low. Any help and feedback I receive will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Just start using the CPAP three days ago. Allergies are real bad right now with tree pollen in the extreme. This time of year I tend to sleep reclined on the couch and last night decided to do that with the CPAP machine. I finally made it through the night with it on. Can't say I slept all the well; I find myself very conscious of my breathing which keeps my mind active. Toward the end I start to get into a rhythm in my breathing that I actually feel asleep, probably for the most extend in a long time but still not enough to feel the difference yet. I think I continue to sleep recline for the time being until I start to sleep better and then wean to the bed again. Sleep recline is not to bad but it worsen the swelling in my legs due to other issue I have. Looking forward to sleeping laying flat to take the pressure off my behind, back and legs.
My nutritionist say that lack of sleep can lead to hormonal deficiencies and is primary in reduce HGH (Human Growth Hormone) natural production, which leads to other hormonal issue like low testosterone in men.
Hi Karl,
What ever you have to do to get used to the machine.... do. It is a process . If you put the machine on and read or listen to some calming music you give your brain a chance to realise that the machine is helpful. It will take some time but it is well worth it. Good Sleep,Chris

Hi Katie,
People give up for many reasons. Their comorbities will do them in .I know of two people that had heart attacks and another that had a stroke in the last three months that for some reason or another put their machines in the closet. I have been threw seven different masks in two and a half years. Each was a steppling stone to the one I now use. Yes it frusterating but I am not anywhere near as sick as I was when first diagnosed. Good Sleep,Chris

I just discovered that about 50% of people with sleep apnea can't tolerate the CPAP mask and it sounds like that may be your case. The good thing though is that there's a relatively new procedure that can treat mild to moderate sleep apnea. It's called the Pillar Procedure and it's a simple treatment stops the soft palate from vibrating when you sleep, so it gives you a good night's sleep without the crazy mask or terrifying lack of breath. I'd look into it if you're frustrated with the CPAP -- at least ask your doctor about it!

The doctor said after three I might see a difference but since still using the damn CPAP how can one tell? I have reduced my pressure from 9 down to 8 and AHI unchanged. After the last treatment (done about 4-6 weeks apart) I will have a sleep study to see if any results. Next treatment 1/9.
