Mary J,
My favorite is definitely the Mirage Quattro, however I cannot wear it as it destoys the bridge of my nose no matter what kind of padding or tricks I use. I need a FFM- I'm a mouth breather and my nose gets stuffed up at night, plus my press…
Vicki, you've really caught my interest on a couple of issues related to the Resmed VPAP Adapt.
First things first, do you have the newer version? The Resmed Adapt SV enhanced? WhiteBeard, usually to be found over at the apneasupport.com forum, did…
I've probably gone thru a good dozen masks in the past 3 years that I've been on CPAP and now VPAP (bi-level). I can't say there was any one that I hated more than the others.
I have found that I LOVE the old Respironics Simplicity simple nasal cus…
I'm a Swift girl all the way! I've also tried the optilife and the breeze, but the swift models just stay put better for me. I just got the new swift fx and love it.
I have tried nasal masks, but they all seem to hit these pressure points right ove…
Hi Ladies, I was recently diagnosed w/ mild obstructive sleep apnea and will be joining you all on the CPAP sleep journey. This is my first post. I'm just back from my appointment comfirming that I have this condition.
My tech recommended the ResMe…
Tam,
In March, I will be on an APAP for 1 year. I'm feeling remarkably better than what I did a year ago. Like you, I noticed a difference immediately. For several months, I didn't seem to get much better...then I ended up getting a new mask due to…
I'm at 100%. I started in March 2009. I can attribute this to a few factors. 1) SleepGuide "friends" with excellent tips for a new CPAP'r like PadACheek, 2) Getting the software to help me learn my first mask was leaking and that was why it was both…
I got the software and reader. I'm thankful I did. I saved the file and sent it to my doctor and this helped me to be proactive in getting a new mask. Being new, I didn't realize my prior mask was leaking so much until I posted the report on this bo…
Without the help of a forum I would have probably been a statistic and my cpap would be history.
My primary care doctor scheduled my sleep study after I requested that she do so. Not one doctor ever suggested that I have a sleep study, although I h…
Wow! What has SG taught me. First and for most that being a sleep technologist is more than just a job. I have learned that although it is important to be able to take care of yourself financially it is even more important to connect yourself to som…
Hard to know where to start, the list is so long. Here are just some of the things that I got here that I didn't get from my doctor:
First, and amazingly, I learned that this is a very serious condition that needs to be treated aggressively. I also…
For me...I learned that you have a "choice" of masks....and there is software to monitor your sleep yourself. Since I learned that here...I bought the software/hardware....posted my results here...found out I had a high leakage rate....and I got a n…
Personally, I have learned more on Sleepguide than I did during my 20 minute doctor appointment. I'm guessing many of you feel the same way....so what is it that you have learned here...that you wouldn't have learned otherwise?
Well they only gave me one choice, when ,I had my sleep study to. I had a really hard time,it was really uncomfortable. They told me to ,you have breathe out your nose. Like ,I had a choice,it was either that or feel like sufficating. Is there any ma…
I have tried several types of masks which all resulted in leakage. Abount a month ago I ordered RemZzzs Padded CPAP/BiPAP Mask Liners. They have eliminated 99 % of the leakage problems. I am ordering them again today. Hope this is helpful.
Hi Mary J.--just saw your comment on here--thanks. And you're welcome. Very exciting news!!
I was just gonna tell you I'm so glad to see that you joined SG Book Club. There are some really good books on there, some of which are available in bookstores, most of which are available on Amazon.com Just FYI ( $$ to author, not to SleepGuide)
We are glad you joined. If you have questions, comments, thoughts, or just want to get to know others this is a great place to be.
You will find informative information for new users as well as seasoned users. If you are a sleep professional, we value your participation in the forum and hope you find it useful in treating sleep apnea patients.
I have absolutely nothing right now. I have done 2 sleep studies, and the last one they determined that even with BiPAP at levels around 22/18, I was still having Central Apnea. The analysis was that there was virtually no change at pressures above…
below is some more info I found quickly on it. i will keep my eye out for more.

I want to know what protocols hospitals have in place, if any, with respect to testing cardiac patients for Sleep Apnea. I remember my wife and i wanting her to be induced for labor at a certain stage of her pregnancy but the hospital had very speci…
For the record, and as an attorney, the bar exam and attorney licensure requirements have done nothing for me directly except wasted my time, got my stress levels high, cost me a bunch of money and otherwise restrict my ability to do my job because…
Carl, do you have a CPAP that starts up with only a little pressure and builds up to the max set for your condition. I am; a fourteen. Went the technician had me try it on at the outlet it almost blew me away and I knew that I couldn't tolerate that…
I didn't mean to get you all testy. I am a fourteen and I didn't wake up all tired in the morning and I was asking an honest question. How do you know that it isn't working? I didn't know that I needed a CPAP that badly either. Like many many folks…
One must understand that mild-to-moderate sleep apnea may be successfully treated with a custom made oral appliance. The reported success rate is >85% with one-year compliance @ >85%. Too often an oral appliance is over-looked and only considered wh…
Sounds like the pressure isn't high enough to me. Do you have a fully data capable machine? What kind of machine do you have? If you have one of the higher quality ones, it will record data that will give us all insights into what's happening.
Huh? What a bizarre comment! How do I know I'm not getting results? Who would know better than I, the patient being treated? If I get up after a night with CPAP and feel as if I haven't slept at all, it doesn't matter what the printout says. We seem…
Sorry for the late notice, but I'm jointly hosting a live workshop on better breathing, sleep and health with yoga teacher Deborah Quilter a the Jewish Community Center on Wednesday, 3/17 at 7:30 to 9PM.
If you're in the metro NY area, please consi…
By the way, to those of you who have CSA as well, the new ASV really seems to be a good machine. I'm re-doing my sleep study with an ASV machine on April 15th. After reading quite a bit about this machine, here's something that I find particularly i…
Total crap, what you are saying. It has nothing to do with "motivation". and "determination". Please refrain from putting other people down simply because they are experiencing difficulty with their various treatment modalities.
How do you know that you are not getting results? If it is saving you from a heart attack and/or diabetes that is results. The only outward results is that I don't fall asleep in movie and and do not get tired driving. I have been on my CPAP for two…
Why do we license physicians? is it just the government trying to get there piece of the pie? NO it's the protection of patients. Why do sleep techs want licensure? It's an effort to standardize the industry. It's an effort to make sure Joe in Monta…
I really cannot believe we're having this discussion again and with the same people. Comparing you RRT who is in homecare and the RRT who is into sleep is like comparing apples to oranges.
All I have to say is HUH??? WTF.
