Hi Jerri,
You asked me 'What is Duodenal Switch'?

Duodenal Switch is short for Biliopancreatic Division with Duodenal Switch and it is a weight loss surgery. It is not as commonly done as the Gastric Bypass, which to me it's a more drastic surgery, and not a lot of doctors know about it yet, but I believe that will change in the not so distant future since the surgery gives much better long term results than any other weight loss surgery, it also let's people that have it eat a more "normal" diet. I'm very happy I had it, I think it may have helped saved my life, and highly recommended to anyone that needs to lose a lot of weight (over 80lbs.)

What the surgery does is make stomach thinner by removing the outer curve/stretchy part of stomach (where most of the grenlin-hunger inducing hormone-is produced) and intestines are 'switched' creating a shorter path for digestion. The intestinal 'switch' part of this surgery is used in Europe to cure patients with Diabetes. For more info visit http://www.duodenalswitch.com and http://www.obesityhelp.com/

Here's a good animated demo video on the surgical procedure:
