My insurance, Kaiser Hospital, says "We follow the sleep industry standards of 6 months replacement. Medicare guidelines allow for replacement at 3 months for reimbursement. KP also follows Medicare guidelines and technically you can get a replacement mask."

I got a mask in Feb and need a new one and my insurance is reluctantly giving me one, though they say "It is not standard". My question is..are these the standards for the sleep industry?

If you are having a problem getting straight answers from Kaiser, speak with the MD that sent you for your study and gave you your results. The office staff may be able to help you with some of your issues and questions. Sometimes the day staff at the sleep lab you had your study can help point you in the right direction. Check your local sleep labs and see if any have AWAKE meetings. They are a great resource for info. Often there are reps for a DME company sponsoring the meeting. They can show you different masks and give helpful tips. Also if you are having issues with your mask leaking it may be a fit issue. If the mask is to big or small it will cause leaks. Most styles are designed to fit "loose" without leaking.
