my personal first reaction is "great, a great looking new machine, i presume it's technically better than prior machines" -- this one in particular is clearly aiming to blend in with a consumer's decor. It's a little gimmicky in its appearance and the MP3 aspect of things. But if the algorithm is tight, and it provides good efficacy and compliance data TO THE PATIENT, then I'm happy with it. Just top of the mind, stream of consciousness reaction....

ok, am i the only one amongst us who is giddy with excitement about knowing about a new AutoPAP machine coming out that plays MP3s and isn't yet available in America? I admit it: I am a true sleep geek.

Sounds like the HC 254 auto available in the states other than the mp3 player. I don't remember the HC 254 having an internal mp3 player - nor the clock face now that I think of it. But the rest of the features are the same as the HC 254 as near as I can tell.
And Fisher & Paykel has a reputation for good reliable, dependable, tough xPAPs. They just were never much on data capability - especially not for the patient.

Is that a flash drive "memory stick" that comes with it in the picture? A USB port for data transfer would be a nice option over the SD card. The appearance is moving in a good direction. So it must have built in speakers? Maybe they could evolve this to give a voice warning when your hose or mask comes off, optional of course and with volume control. CPAPs are gonna get much better over time if this is an indication. My DME said Fisher & Paykel is one of the brands they carry, along with Phillips Respironics. No word on when this will make it to the U.S. market though, right? The availability of efficacy data to the patient would be the deal maker though.

Do a google search on HC 254 and see how much similarity there is between these two units. The HC 254 IS sold in the USA. My high school friend has one.

This is the first F&P to combine their ThermoSmart humidification with a heated tube with an APAP unit, so I'm interested in it for that reason alone. I' love to get an idea when it might be available in the US.

Thanks--at the incredibly slow rate my sleep doc is communicating with my PCP, maybe I'll actually have my scrip by then. Either way, I should be able to rent until then.

hrm. seems as if F&P is just today announcing the availability of its new ICON Range machine in Australia and New Zealand:

The ICON range integrates Fisher & Paykel Healthcare's leading technologies into stylish, compact and intelligent devices to deliver a better night's sleep for OSA patients. The F&P ICON also includes a digital clock, alarm and music playing capabilities to enhance patient adaptation to CPAP therapy.
"The ICON combines both exceptional style and technology to fit unobtrusively into the home setting. It has a very small footprint and incorporates our innovative technologies including, SmartStick, ThermoSmart and SensAwake", commented Michael Daniell, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare's Chief Executive Officer.
The product range spans three models; Auto, Premo and Novo. The Auto detects interruptions to normal breathing and provides the appropriate positive airway pressure to meet the breath-by-breath needs of the patient with full efficacy and compliance reporting. The Premo model provides fixed pressure therapy with efficacy and compliance reporting, while the Novo provides basic compliance reporting.
The ICON range also includes Fisher & Paykel's InfoSmart technologies, which will provide a full range of communication and compliance reporting options.
