Ok folks, do any of you have to do this?

I got a postcard in the mail from my DME that reads:
"Per your Insurance Company's Requirements, you must report your CPAP usage hours within 10 days of this notice or your outstanding balance will be your responsibility" " Please do not disregard this notice"

What???? My DME guy never told me I had to report my hours, hell, I don't even have a data capable machine !
I have an S8, and it only records hours used so ok, but, it would have been nice if he told me this before hand.

I have been keeping a log beside my bed. I record when I go to bed and when I take off my mask. I have been doing pretty good, I am getting 6-7 hours with the mask on, some nights I get a full night. I haven't had to go to bed at 8:30p for about a month now. I am starting to feel normal again and am finally shaking that exhausted/hit by a bus feeling I used to get in the afternoon.

BTW: I have an appt with my doc on the 17th to discuss switching out my machine.

Donna, do you have a data card with your machine that you can just mail in to the DME that will show the hours used? It's typical for an insurance company to want to know you are using the machine, so many of them end up in the closet. Usually four hours a night is the magic number and you are surpassing that. Good luck, keep us posted. Also, hope you can switch to a data capable machine.

Mary: Why don't they tell you this stuff when you get the machine? It's no big deal to report my hours, I have the manual to figure it out. I have said this before and I'll say it again, if it weren't for the folks here at SleepGuide, many of us would be floundering in the world of OSA. I don't know what I would do if I had to call my Doc every time I had a question, they are not very good at returning phone calls. I feel bad for those that have OSA and don't know about this site.

Thanks Mary !

Donna, the DME might not have known until they got the notice from the insurance company. Glad you know how to handle it.

On the subject of the data card. If I get an S9, how will I download the data? I've read about others trying to find the software. I'm not that computer savvy. What does this entail ?

Donna, I'm sorry I'm not familiar with the S9. Perhaps someone else with that machine will step up.
