It’s a breath of fresh air more Canadians with intrusive throat treatments should be drawing, say Calgary medical officials.

....

In response to his abnormal sleep breathing patterns, Lang underwent a tracheotomy in 1994.

But instead of being saddled with the more common, uncomfortable tracheostomy tube inserted in his windpipe, Lang had the smaller, silicon attachment that’s less visible and physically intrusive.

“Most people don’t even know I’ve got it.”

Absolutely NOT! Non invasive PAP therapy should be tried first. It was common back in the 80's and early 90's to trach the severe OSA patients. It is a very out dated and intrusive procedure. Any time you "breach the hule" chances of infection and complications increase significantly. We have moved beyond this type of treatment. Mr. Lang should see if he can be titrated to a CPAP or BiLevel. Then be decannulated. That would make his life even easier!
I think I will stick to my good old cpap!!
