Idiopathic hypersomnolence
Do y'all think idiopathic hypersomnolence is just a cop out? I have a friend who has this diagnosis & the prescribed treatment is provigil. She literally falls asleep at her desk during work. After I recently changed sleep docs due to people telling me dr. Moufaraj had a reputation for being a quack, I learned that he was the one who labeled her as such. It just confirms my belief that he doesn't know what he's doing.

Yes, but I really think he doesn't know what he's doing. The appt with him was an entirely different experience than with dr. Chesson & the resident. Dr. Chesson was so much more thorough & knowledgable. I tried to tell my friend she should consider a 2nd opinion, but moufaraj was actually nice to her, so she trusts him. I love doctors but bad ones really suck!

This is a tough case. Idiopathic hypersomnolence is a very real and debilitating diagnosis for many.
Not knowing the persons history it is hard to comment.
Is the patient obese? Familial history? Has she undergone Polysomnogram with MSLT or MWT? Kept a 14 day sleep diary? Is she taking any medications such as soma , darvocet etc ? The list goes on and on.

I forgot to ask her abt the mslt & mwt. I don't know. He asked me if I'd gone without my adderall recently & I said I couldn't function without it. So he told me I'd have to stop taking it for 2 weeks & keep a sleep diary & that I prob couldn't do that. He told me. It's like he didn't want my business. She is not obese & takes lexapro, which makes u tired & wellbutrin. I don't know her family history. But you did answer my question as far as you do think it's a valid diagnosis. I am just skeptical abt a lot of idiopathic sydromes, like maybe the investigation wasn't very thorough.
