I think that for some reason some people think that if your sleep apnea is caused by your air way closing this internal action should manifest it's self externally with a recessed chin. Just like a sink hole points out a collapse under ground. Its all very scientific. Newton's " every action has an equal and opposite reaction." What I think is not printable, so I'll just say I don't believe that people with sleep apnea are weak chinned people with self esteem issues driven to hide their shame by covering it up with a beard. OH BROTHER!!
well, I worked at a prominent childrens hospital testing newborns with Pierre Robin syndrome...look it up...it is extremely significant in having OSA.... with the small, and or recessed jaw that doesnt leave enough room in the back of the throat causeing airway obstruction...
I performed the studies on these newborns pre and post op for surgical advancement of the jaw... its truly amazing what changes are done with this.... the osa goes away...
Sigh. Disappointing that the general public doesn't know this yet. Even more disappointing that most of those with OSA don't know it.
But congratulations for asking. Yes, the great majority of obstructive apnea cases is caused by underdeveloped jaws.
The fundamental problem in OSA is due to smaller upper airway anatomy, caused by having smaller jaws and dental crowding. The smaller the space behind the tongue, the more likely you’ll obstruct while breathing during sleep.
Now do you want to ask why we have become a population of people with underdeveloped jaws?
