Curious how many among us either take Ambien or once did take Ambien to help go to sleep, and have you been able to kick Ambien to the curb now that you are treating the underlying Sleep disoder (Sleep Apnea)?

No one will prescribe ambien for me. LOL. I take benadyl routinely.
I took ambien for 2 years trying to find sleep that never came. I got stuck away from home one night and did not have any with me to take. I slept just as well without it as I did with it. I quit that night and never turned back. I believe treating my apenea helped me not need it any longer.
I am soooooo jealous Mary. Benadryl keeps me awake and makes me very jittery if taken on a regular basis (I can occassionally take it for allergies if I take it early in the day so that the effects are worn off by bedtime). I would be up pacing the floor if I took it near bedtime. Yet, it is an effective med for most people. You don't always think of Benadryl as causing allergic reactions in people since it is so "safe" for the vast majority -- but my youngest daughter ended up having an allergic reaction to Benadryl that caused her to have to go to the er. It is now in her medical history that she is allergic to Benadryl.

Ambien can be some nasty stuff according the shrink I saw a few years back. I had been prescribed Ambien after having a nervous breakdown and unable to sleep for several nights straight. I took it for a few weeks to help reestablish my sleep routine after being dismissed from the hospital. When I had my appointment for follow up here in my hometown, the doctor (shrink) said that Ambien had way too many negatives to be of much benefit to most in his opinion. He stated that it was "not as safe" as what many doctors appeared to think and he did not recommend it. By the time I saw him I was no longer needing to take Ambien so it wasn't a problem for me.
I used Ambien every night for 7 nights, then I switched to only using it when I absolutely needed to get to sleep. Now I need or use it less than once a month. Ambien has always guaranteed me 4-5 hours sleep. I've never tried Ambien CR.
