I saw this posted on a forum referring to Thursday's show:

"Hi, what absolutely inFURiated me yesterday was catching Dr. Phil (no, I'm not otherwise a fan!) referring a man to some snore centre for help when the guy so clearly had apnea, but no one obviously had mentioned it to him. Never heard a
more definitive 'case', but all Dr. P. suggested was a snore clinic!"

I assume some of you watch the show and was wondering if anyone had more comments.

Rooster, I didn't know there was such a thing as a snore clinic. Dr. Oz is familiar to those of us on this forum for consistently missing the boat. About the best we can say is he does bring some attention, however wrong, to the subject of sleep apnea. It's kind of a catch 22, do we want the media attention- well yes. But do we want wrong information out there- no. Might a person, or two investigate further after his show- I hope so. Good to have you posting.

Mary, I corrected my post - it was Dr. Phil. Just as bad though. So there two doctors doing a poor job on daytime TV?
I only hope that when that guys doctor hears "snore clinic" he will think "sleep clinic". I hope in many doctors minds a guy that needs a snore clinic- and there are such things, but they seem to be associated with sleep disorders and sleeep apnea (google), will send him for a sleep study.
That Dr. Phil!? Where do these guys get this information....

Dr. Phil probably got his education on sleep disorders by watching Dr. Oz. :):)
Hey Rooster ~

And they both got their information out of a crackerjack box or a fortune cookie.
He is one hell of a huckster, I can't think of any other fat person who could write a fatloss book and make a million off of it. But yeah, his information is usually flawed and I wouldn't trust him if he said the sky was blue.
In the sleep center last week, my co-worker had a patient (here for a titration) that saw something on Dr. Oz or Dr. Phil about a mouthpiece that "cured" sleep apnea. This patient sounded like a commercial for this thing. When the sleep tech was explaining CPAP and different masks, the patient would interrupt with a line from the mouthpiece thing. I think alot of those types of things gives people false hope. Of course there are some people that benefit from mouth pieces. But, in all, a sleep study and some education are invaluable when it comes to all this. Oh, by the way, an hour after that lady was preaching about the mouthpiece, she was sleeping soundly and event free with CPAP!!!
I can see where a mouth piece can work in tandem with nPAP titration…but, a cure “I don’t think so Tim”.
What really gets me is the push from some websites for de-snore sprays and nose strips.
