I will have to look into that Jackie. Do you have any links?
What kind of doses were they taking? I take 50,000u once a week for low Vitamin D. .
This is interesting, where did you do your research? Add again I would like to know what kind of high dose we are talking about. Anything to sleep better!
Thanks,
Mary
I know that I've taken high dose Vitamin D for years for it's help in boosting one's immune system. I sleep like a short hairy baby too....could be a connection?
Biggest issue I've seen with melatonin is that folks take it right before they try to go to sleep. I'm not a MD, that being said, melatonin should be taken at least a few hrs before you're trying to go to sleep.
Yeah, well, no one told my body that. I was on 100,000 IU a week for almost 3 years. Then 50,000 IU a week for a year. And right now am on 50,000 IU every other week. And I was started on CPAP in Oct 2006.

Thanks for sharing this info.

Can anyone tell us WHY doctors who find we have low vitamin D levels and script high doses of vitamin D always script vitamin D3 when vitamin D2 is supposed to be the most effective?
Walt, not to sound like a broken record, but how much Vit. D?

My bad Mary...I take 4000IU Vitamin D daily along with 1160mg of Turmeric Extract Curcumin C3. Healthy as a horse, no current sleep/health issues. Remember though...I am not a MD.... I just like taking my health into my own hands.

Vitamin D levels are inversely related to those of melatonin, another mood-regulating hormone. Melatonin helps modulate your circadian rhythms, with darkness triggering melatonin secretion by the pineal gland within your brain, bringing you down gently at night for sleep. Insomnia, mood swings and food cravings are influenced by melatonin. Sunlight shuts melatonin production off, while triggering release of vitamin D — that’s why doctors recommend getting outdoors as a remedy for jet lag.

Ok mary. I know one person is on 50,000 units as well. I have a vit D deficiency as well and have taking that amount before. Though people should be aware this dose is by prescription only for people who are deficient in Vit D. Here is an excellent link on Vit D. http://www.womentowomen.com/healthynutrition/vitamind.aspx

Judy, Vit D will have nothing to do with treating sleep apnea. This is more an insomnia issue. Cpap is still the best answer for that. The reason Vit D3 is recommended is because it takes too long for the body to absorb D2. Some doctors still aren't testing for it and are unaware of the importance of it to our body. Here's a link that explains all that.

There are many medical folks out there who actually have their patients who are having issues achieving/falling asleep to get at least 15 min of early morning sunshine everyday. It not only helps "reset" their internal clock, but helps in the natural production of melatonin.
Sounds good to me. I'm all for any natural treatments or cures.
