Hello All ~
I would like to hear about any suggestions anyone might have regarding - experts, treatment (anywhere in the country) and research or any information on:
lack of S-3 and S-4 (SWS)
lack of REM
& alpha intrusion
Whatever you might think of would be much appreciated. Thanks much. And if you should hear or read of anything in the future, I read the postings everyday and I’ll always be on the lookout. -- So please know I include a continuous thank you.
Best,
Renee

For some reason I can'tget it to open. I can get it to open on my PC, but not for SG.
It is my belief that anyone (with a few exceptions) put on a drug like that one before PAP therapy should seriously allow themselves to consider being weaned off of it completely, under a doctor's close supervision, just to see what happens, once PAP therapy is working. I believe many people may be treating symptoms they would no longer have if they came off the med.
Obviously, if it is determined that the person should go back on it, that is the thing to do. But why not find out if the patient still needs it? Untreated OSA is a perfectly logical explanation of why it was needed in the first place. Taking the drug when you need it is one thing. Taking it when you don't need it can be damaging, in my opinion. In fact, it may cause the very symptom it is meant to treat. So I think it important to find out if you need it once PAP therapy is up and running and documented as being effective. It is even more important, though, that it be done as you say--logically, and supervised by a doctor.
Renee, back about 1996-1998 a sleep neuro sent me for neuropsych testing as well. Only I wasn't quite so fortunate as you. Altho somewhat minor it did reveal some weaknesses. I forget the term now, but basically in "secretarial" skills, storage and filing and in coordination. Slowed processing of information. I remember one of the most indicative tests was the finger tapping test. Interestingly, she never referred me for a sleep study, instead scripting Trazadone, etc. trials. I finally decided stuff that and worked my way into an in-lab PSG at our local hospital. I also had alpha intrusion into delta sleep. That was so long ago I don't remember much more about it. I didn't know enough at that time to get a copy of the full report. How I wish I had!! I saw it but was never given a copy and never thought (at that time) to ask for it. I don't know that the full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs would even still be available.
It sounds like your sleep is a challenge AND, more importantly, that you have a sleep doctor who likes a challenge! That can make all the difference in the world. Good luck! "I" find your "case" interesting and I'm not even a sleep professional.
Buy a copy of tonight's presentation by Dr Bhola at Dr Park's website. "How To Read Your Sleep Study Report". She went well beyond the subject title. Including MSLTs and MWTs. AND she did discuss lack of Stage 3, REM, etc.
Renee,
There have been times when patients with untreated chronic pain and fibromyalgia show REM delay or lack of REM, alpha intrusion and limited SWS.

Hello Judy,
I went to Dr. Park's website at: http://doctorstevenpark.com/ - but I couldn't find any way to buy a copy of the presentation. I, then, posted a question on Dr. Park's SG page inquiring about how to get a copy but haven't gotten a reply so I thought I would check back in with you. If it isn't too complicated to explain, could advise how / where did you find a way to get a copy of the discussion through Dr. Park's website?
Thanks again,
Renee
